After a season

She will have a couple of weeks prior to her season when male dogs will start to show an interest in her urine and she will drink and pee more leaving scent trails when shes out and about on walks etc, then you have several weeks when shes bleeding and then receptive to male dogs, the entire heat cycle from the start of the process to the end when she is no longer receptive to male dogs I think its about 6-8 weeks in total, but to be honest I have never noticed any change in my bitches hunting ability etc when they are in season, as long as you provide extra water so they dont drink from potentially polluted sources, and you keep an eye on them with other bitches (as this can be the time that dominance related fights break out) it shouldnt be too much of a problem :good:

I never said they are bleeding for 7 weeks mate, If you read my post again :D you will see I said they have a couple of weeks in the run up to the actual season where they become attractive to male dogs, then they have the actual heat period, which can consist of a week or sos bleeding, then they can be standing for a week or so, then you have the period of a few weeks after where they are still swollen and sometimes pass discharge, giving you a period of around 6 weeks in total when their bodies are undergoing hormonal changes.

I think some bitches can go like that Buckskin, they are more interested in sniffing around and scent marking than hunting, my mates bitch is like that when shes on the break so he doesnt bother working her much cos she can be funny and I think it pisses him off a bit :D but the only thing Ive ever really noticed with my bitches is they become more aggressive towards each other and I need to keep more of an eye on them than usual incase any wee squabbles break out cos when hormones are running high, it usually ends up in a brawl instead of the usual 5 minute spat :icon_eek:

if u look at greyhounds it can take 12- 16 weeks after the start of the season to get good times again which is why 1 season or lees a year is impotant to trainers. the season lasts about 3 weeks with the 12 day beeing the most fertile .dogs should only be worked lightly during this period . if u look at the time it takes a greyhound to get right u can apreciate why, easpecialy coursing dogs take to get back to killing hares regulaly.

when you talk about greyhounds tomo, its spit seconds that count in races and your [bANNED TEXT], that does matter to a trainer, but when your takin a lurcher bitch out for a mooch after her break it dont matter so much, and iv never had any noticable trouble wi mine, but i know a few grew trainers that curse when there bitches come in season
