sxs vs o/u

Recommended Posts

I am just waiting on my cert coming through the post then will be off to buy my shotgun, i,m on a very limited budget so was wondering why most of you seem to prefer o/u to sxs as you all know i can get an sxs for less leaving more for decoys etc, im thinking probably baikal for their robustness, I know about more percived recoil with sxs but would appreciate any other views. I dont care about pretty, its just for a hide gun and mooching.

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

congratulations on getting your certificate.

sxs versus ou? OU guns tend to be heavier than sxs therefore recoil a bit less. if you are going to be shooting clays then a OU is probably the best option. Shop around for a Second hand lincoln or similar (gun fit is more important than make)

if you want a rough shooting piece to walk around with then a SXS is a good choice.

Both guns will kill game, both fire the same cartridges.

The baikal sxs is a heavy gun that is built to last, I had one for a knock about/lamping/dog training gun and I actually quite liked it, I found the extra weight helped to with my swing and it had 3" chambers so was usefull on fox drives.

Don't rush into it, there are loads of guns out there.

Good luck and hot barrels, Ezzy

Thanks for your replys, my budget is only £100 or so therefore im very limited and that rules out semi auto (it would have been a strong contender otherwise). The Baikal sxs is a contender, i used to own one around 25 years ago, it was rugged and reliable and thats all i need but it seems from most of what i've read previously that im more likley to shoot better with an o/u or at least find it easier to improve with one or have I misunderstood.

Cheers

HI ADAM IM NO EXPERT BY ANY MEAN'S BUT IF YOU HAVE USED A S-S IN THE PAST AND WERE HAPPY WITH IT I WOULD GO FOR IT I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN WHEN YOU USE SOMETHING THAT FEEL'S RIGHT IT'S ONLY PRACTICE AND AFTER ALL YOU AREN'T COMPERTION SHOOTING IT'S ONLY FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT AND I WOULD IMAGINE YOU WILL GET SOMETHING TO SUIT IN THAT PRICE BRACKET GOOD LUCK.

cant go wrong with a sxs mate,ok slightly more recoil but generally lighter good all round game gun ,prob go for 1/4 and 1/2 choke should cover all your needs dont forget mate if anything like me, i go for a bit of tradition lol atb rob

just to add lot of people consider over and under gives better target perception but i certainly did not find this to be the case but thats just me go for it and enjoy
