sorry if i offended anybody with any of my coments had a drink with owen last night he was not impressed with some of the comments i told him were made said he first met king in the early eighties any questions about any of his or kings dogs he will be happy to answer

 

is this the same owen who said that saluki is not needed in coursing dogs and the same owen that had nuttall a match and had to carry his dogs off the fens?

owen was the man who went to england and ran nuthall was beten 3 -1 but as far as i know no other irish man tried to go and take on one of the top men in coursing ever in his own back yard. he also ran the first irish compation ever to be ran in england which invited 16 men to go north and south of the border one of which was p sweeney but unfortunatley he could not go i think this com went on for 4 years preban i also think that nuthall and owen are still friends and he may have a diffrent story to tell about the dog owen ran that day

p sweeney ran in the calender coursing club for many a year,.as for owen king and afew others,.they still have a comp, but any time we want to run in it there is always an excuse. but when they are trying to sell pups they say there dog or bitch are the best in ireland how can they when they wont let us run???????????????????.... early on in this tread you said sligo express was better than irishlady she killed 60 hares in a season that works out at 3 hares aweek and i know owen he hunts maybe 2 or 3 times aweek thats not a record to be braging about .so maybe in the future we might get an invite, so until then we know who has the DOGS atb john

i'll tell you the story that day mate because i was there owens dog threw the anchors on that hard it got friction burns

and i dont know were you got the 3-1 from because the dog spewed on the second hare and didnt catch its first either

i have heard of paddy sweeney,not sure what dogs he bred, could you name one or two if possible all the best.

all bread of irishlady,what about cathys bitch that was irishladys sister i got a bitch out of her bought her of PK about 10 yrs ago it was the litter after prince had served her,cathys bitch im made to beleave was irishterrier x deerhound and thats why it was always a full or a 3/4 saluki went on irishlady and cathys bitch..the 3 legged irishterrier that always lay on top of the old car in kings yard was called reggie if my memorie serves me right..All the good dogs here in ireland have all irishlady and her sister in ther makeup real game animals,I also had a bitch out of glider line bread to a bitch with irishlady back ground,In fact all my dogs are bread with irishlady blood i have a dog ther his father was straight out of her and his mother was of AmcV hope,i put him to the bitch of cathys bitch and the bitch of glider all line bread and geting great pleasure hunting them...atb SGW..................

to shot gun willy,the dog with three legs is called bertie,grandfather to irish lady and cathys bitch. these two bitches were breed much the same however they were not sisters.to say that most lurchers in ireland are related to these two is mabe true,however i think you must look further back,having hunted with some of there parents and grandparents these dogs were every bit as good and maybe better.Cathys bitch was never hunted as she was stole as a small pup from kings yard and he only got her back four years later.The reason some of these older dogs never got as much recognition in my opinion is there was not as much slaggin at that time and the people that owned them did not realy go in for all this braggin.As i am farley new to this i have being looking at other forums on this site and it always seem to decend into a slaggin match so i am not going to answer any more of this type of post ,however i do know how most of kings dogs are breed if not all of them and if anybody has any questions on these dogs i will be too happy to answere them.

you might be able to answer one for me who told you sligo express was irishladys sister she was notting to her she also jacked .. and the reaon they were not reconised is because they were bred for rabbits and foxs.. there is no slagging just plain facts, some times the truth is hard to swallow....

Great reading there lads,i realy enjoyed reading all the posts,some were great and some were not,there were a great few dogs around in the 80s and a few good men thet bred them,but you all talk about Philip King but you dont mension the likes of Jim Young,Peter Byrne,Tom Clarke but to name a few that played a great part it bringing kings name onto the coursing world,
