Oh Sounder, Im afraid you disappoint me once again.....To go on the word of a man who uses the term DRUGONIAN, when the actual term is DRACONIAN, amuses me. It tells me all I need to know about IVORBIGUN, as does his name...God bless him.( must be feeling somewhat inadequate) Trust me Sounder, Philip is a gentleman.

With respect Bigun, Philip is a man with an incredible knowledge of dogs . As I have already mentioned the dogs are kept on a farm. As a lurcherman of many years I have never seen any dog breeder on either side of the water breed such consistantly top class dogs. For those of us big enough to admit the truth, Philip should indeed be respected as one of the greatest lurchermen of his generation. Knowing Philp as well as I do, Im sure he would be laughing away at some of the comments so far. Ted, was probably the finest wheaten dog I have ever or will ever see in my lifetime...owner, Philip King.

i toughguy phil ad wheaten called rambo it used to live in a little brick hut half way down the driveway that was the best wheaten ive seen do you remeber that dog

very good reply neil.

alot of decent dog still like pk to rear pups.

the dogs are free range as he would tell you.

i have been at his yard and seen twenty or

thirty dogs in top class condition and ready

to run even pups in great condition.

i have never seen one single advert for this man

and he still can sell dogs.

like him or not he can and does have his dogs in such a

standard that most lads well under half his age can not

get their dogs to.

and has been coursing before most of the people that slate him where born.

i am not a friend of his at all and know people that like and also

dont like him.so i have no reason to be sticking up for him

but i will say him and his mates are hard to beat in the field

have gave this topic some tought and with the amount of dogs

that have been stolen this year which people close to him have

cruelly found out that i think this topic might be better deleted

as have a feeling that dog theifs or at least people with contact

with thieving scum are viewing forums these days.

just too many on these forums to be able to trust every one.

Zak, I cant remember a wheaten dog called Rambo, what year roughly was that? I remember a fine lurcher dog belonging to a chap by the name of Kevin Reavey just above the border there, back in the 80s called Rambo. I bred off that dog and produced a fine bitch that was killed one night during a lightning strike, believe it or not.

Dare I mention after all these years, what happened to the wheaten terriers (17 in number I recall) belonging to the greatest wheaten terrier man this country has ever known, as he was being laid to rest...........SHAME

Link to post

TOUGHGUY i do remember hearing about wheatens been taken from ogormans yard when indeed they were laying the man to rest, not to sure if this is what you are on about. they were brought up north . a few of the boys up there ended up with a few good dogs that they made out they bred, when they were asked what became of the 17 wheatens they said they put them down because thats the way ogorman would of wanted it,talk trying to make it your own

Link to post

lads i think you may be a bit of track here, while wheatens play a big part in our lurchers, i was really trying to find out about the good dogs past and present, who bred them, and were good dogs consistent with the same breeders.i firmly believe that most of our top dogs here in the uk have some type of irish blood in them,as is the irish dogs would havesome type of english blood in them ,the point is by working together we can produce some excellent sporting dogs

Link to post

as i have come to this topic late and seem to have the best knowledge of mr kings yard i feel i must add a futher coment rambo was not a full wheaten but irish ardle kerry blue and wheaten all mixed however he had a wheaten called ted the reason king dose not need to advertise is he has been very lucky to sell some of his dogs to very good handlers and as any dog man knows no matter how well bread or well reared a dog is in the wrong hands his or her hunting life will be short lived and as i have found when you do sell one on to england or else where in ireland and say where it came from by way of advertisement when you go back to buy again you will soon find a some what higher price list and the man that finished these dogs of and actuly made them what they were is never mentioned funny how some men always seem to buy good dogs of king and some seem to try and try and never get a good one of him

Link to post

dont no the man so not getting involved in the slanging but that tractor tyre idea sounds like it would be quite good you think about the size of a tractor back wheel tyre, filled with straw, the dog will be lying below the top of the tyre so any draught would pass over the top and if it was really cold the dog would be able to push its way into the rim part of the tyre to get extra warmth. its not how I would do things but I cant knock the idea theres worse ways to house dogs
