mushroom 13,261
Just got in from shooting (3 head shots all retrieved by my staff) i've come to give them to the fezzer kits n i've noticed they all have quite swollen bellies. Now i'm taking them to the vets first thing tomorrow before anyone starts but wondered if anyone knows what it is/could be. Worms was the first thing that came to mind can ferrets get bad cases of worms? any help/advice much appreciated. Kie. Quote Link to post

I think the main reason mine got sick is that the man that sold them to me fed them on bread and milk and kept them in poor enough conditions. I took them to the vet twice to worm them and give antibiotics but no good. did you breed yours yourself or what? Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Must admit i have not come across ferrets with a worm burden ever, but if there off to the vets then at least you will find out what it is Quote Link to post

I've checked with people who have bought some of me and theirs are fine, I'm wondering if i've given them something to eat that has made them ill. Vet was not sure but also said she'd never heard of serious worm infestations in fezzers. I've to take them back later when the chap who deals with small mammals is in. Hopefully he'll shed light. Otherwise i may have to cull to protect the adults. I'm already on with a weak stardrops solution and a stiff scrubbing brush just in case it is an infection. Quote Link to post

To be honest I dont think many vets have a clue about ferrets. the same thing happened when I brought mine they gave them injections and then told me to come back theb next day to see the vet that deals with small mammals. when I met this vet he didnt seem to know any more than the others. It took him twenty minutes to figure out a dose for anti-biotics and said it might be this it might be that. a few hours after I brought them home thy were dead. Id suppose a lot of people just dont bring their ferrets to the vets and that is why they have little knowledge of them. but still you would think they should know. What have you fed yours to date out of interest? Quote Link to post
