circular magpie trap design

i am looking for a design for a magpie trap i saw. it is circular in shape with four compartments and side sliding doors with wire treadle to shut the door. If anyone has even some good photos it would be great as i want to have a go at making one thanks.

Would it be this one ? I'd be a bit concerned about the size of that call bird compartment but it's hard to tell from the photo.

surely there is guidelines when using live bird traps as to the size of the live bird compartment

Yes indeed, which is why I raised a concern about that particular trap. I think the design is a great idea but just make sure the central cage is big enough for the bird and for a perch, food and water.

 

The General Licences for ENGLAND (For example WML-GEN-08) have the following footnote.

 

Under section 8 of the Act, it is an offence for any person to keep or confine any bird whatever in any cage or other receptacle which is not sufficient in height, length or breadth to permit the bird to stretch its wings freely.

 

I'm note sure what the equivalent legislation is for Ireland.

 

As for the mechanics of the trap, this topic on another forum should get you started on the sliding door mechanism.
