Pigeon shooting request

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

First post in these forums so forgive me if I have not done this correctly. I have been shooting for a couple of years (mostly clays at a ground in North Yorks.) and consider myself to be a reasonable shot. (I have also been on a driven pheasant day so have actually shot at live quarry)

I would really like to try my hand at pigeon shooting, but haven't had any success in securing permission to shoot over any land. Because of this I haven't bought any gear (seems pretty pointless if I ''ve nowhere to use it), so have come to the conclusion that my only real options are:

1. Go on a days 'guided' pigeon shoot where all the kit is included in the price - Any recomendations appreciated!

2. Post here and see if anyone would be willing to take a chance on a newbie - Damned cheeky I know :icon_redface:

I'm a member of the BASC so insurance is no issue.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Wow, thanks for the swift responses (and the offers!) Wish I'd have found this site earlier, would have saved me a lot of wasted time.

@Verminator - I think the main reason I've failed to secure any shooting is the nature of the farming round my way (West Yorks.). Its more your traditional livestock rather than arable farming so there seems to be little in the way of crops that require protection from woodies etc. and I've not really plucked up the courage to try further afield.

Once again, thanks for the responses. I may well be knocking 'em out of the sky in a field near you soon! (or missing 'em by a mile.... :hunter: )

Whilst we didnt get a lot of birds it was a good way to spend a few hours, i dont think the birds were feeding on that field particularly but were coaxed into the set up to have a look. Stuart was a good bloke to have out and he even got to grips with identifying Stock Doves pretty quickly :icon_redface:

Ill be in touch mate next month when the duck shooting kicks off
