mike1458 14
I am having a debate with one of my terrier men friends and I am wondering what everyone elses opinion is about it. I can see both side of the argument but I feel its a wise decision to micro chip my dogs just incase some thing happens. What does everyone else think? Give me your views for and against if you like and see if we can have a friendly debate. ATB mike Quote Link to post

blackpack 70
in my opinion no. But as the shitty law states now all working terriers with docked tails have to be micro chipped Quote Link to post
lurcher lass 9
i didn't know it was the law to chip terriers and i'm unsure how said law is with lurchers,,,,,, but all three of mine are micro chipped and planning to get them tatooed also, the tatoo is to try and prevent them being stolen, visual deterent etc and the micro chip is so if they get missing etc they can be returned, rather then some rescue putting her to sleep to save kennel space . . even if i was caught at the poaching game i'd rather eat porrige knowing me dog is safe at a friends place till i'm free to cause trouble again!! not long now lads! blackpack 70
its not the law to chip terriers but its the law to chip them in Wales if tails are docked. Quote Link to post
Barrie 1,325
its not the law to chip terriers but its the law to chip them in Wales if tails are docked. The Animal Welfare Act 2006 requires that each legally docked dog (ie. docked on or after 28th March 2007 in Wales and 6th April 2007 in England) must before they are 3 months old be identified by a microchip inserted by a vet and the registration number recorded on the vets docking certificate issued at the time of docking. The whole issue of microchipping relates to identifying those dogs which have been legally docked and those which have not. For more detailed information see..... Tail Docking Info Hope this helps clarify matters. Edited August 5, 2009 by Barrie Quote Link to post
desertdog 149
i dont see a problem with having them chipped, after all if you have permission and you are working within the law, its a good idea,at least if they go missing you have a good chance of some one contacting you if they are found. Hunting-top-shots 2
I think we should all get our dogs chiped, just think how many times have we read dog been nicked, when importing or exporting dogs they have to be chiped to travel. If the dogs ain't chiped it is easy enough to chip the dog and then send him accross seas never to be seen again. but if there is already a chip in the dog there can't be a second one placed, or if the dirty feckers that nicked the dogs were dumb enough not to check then how are they going to explain the wrong number at the port. and as for the guys that say they are poachers GET A LIFE!!! and turn the gray matter on there are also kids on here Lads come on a little bit of common sence. Guest sph1979
Chipping a dog is ok but if there is nothing wrong with them why would the person whos nicked them take trhem too a vet? just more money for vets and the fat arse city folk Quote Link to post
Guest lurchers&terriers
just because you poach isn't a good enough excuse in my eyes. what do you get if your caught poaching? a fine or a slap on the wrists unless your poaching stuff that you shouldn't and then its a bigger fine. say your out with your dog and it goes missing or if someone stole your dog you will wish you had them chipped Quote Link to post
Hunting-top-shots 2
Chipping a dog is ok but if there is nothing wrong with them why would the person whos nicked them take trhem too a vet? just more money for vets and the fat arse city folk It is not a case of why take the dog goes to the vet, it is more a case of when the dogs get exported. I don't think that the nicked dogs stay in the UK. To export dogs you have to have a chip. appart from above if the dog gets lost the there are systems in all dog homes / Kennels that check the dogs before they are put in a Kennel if the dog is chiped then you will more than likly get a phone call from the home to tell you to come and pick up the dog and that is reason enough to get it done.
