awen 29
Wanted to know your opinions on getting 2 pups at the same time, or should you get one and put all your effort into it before even thinking about another. i thought that if you had 2 at a similar age they would learn off each other and become a better working team as time goes on. am i talking bollox or not. kayteetess 15
I would say one myself, easier to train like the other lad said, best thing to do is let it learn some of the ropes with a good experienced dog rather than piss about with another pup,atb kate Quote Link to post

lofti 579
hi awen ,i have 2 pups from the same litter they are a year old now and doing very well. BUT! with out doubt its definatley harder to train two pups at the same time as they distract each other ,everthing seems to be harder sometimes can be a battle of wills lol. you must have alot of patience with them mate. my reason for getting two was i had to have my last lurcher pts after an accident. and didnt want one pup kenneld on its own, i thought about buying an older dog but but prefer to bring them on myself if you know what i mean. so got the two. its turned out good in the end and they have worked out quite a good method of hunting between them the fawn one likes to bush and the black one likes to wait for the bolt lofti. lurcher lass 9
funny if you would have asked me 7 months ago i would have said only stick to the one pup and never get two from the same litter! but i went and done just that  but its worked well for me the two keep each other company very well, are very sweet together, takes the puppy madness away from me bitch, when one pup is doing good behaviour thats grand as the other will copy BUT much more time training, joys of distraction etc more time taken to do one on one with two pups, however your pup would be older and from seperate litters, i'd say if this is what your used to and what you'd be happy to do than go for it and enjoy it!! i had me moments of ARGHHH with the two pups but you have that with one! and i feel this has helped in my learning experiences with dogs and i find it brilliant how even though they are strongly related there are so many ways in which their completly different, its been a pleasure and i can't wait til season to give them a run good luck mate in what you decide to do and remember tis completly up to you lurcher lass x x x Quote Link to post

nighteyes 275
go for just one i say imo, if one does a good thing yeah the other will, but the same as a bad thing the other will copy, i just think you can put alot more ito the one best of luck what ever you do Quote Link to post
Sully 3
I was in the same boat mate, having had to have my last lurcher pts, so we visited Mr Hancocks and I came out and asked him, I had my £400 at the ready and he said......JUST BUY ONE NOW AND THE OTHER IN 12 MONTHS TIME ! now surely wouldnt it have been more astute of him to have took my money and sent me on my way with 2 pups in stead of 1, he said I would nt have been able to obtain the standard of training with 2 dogs than I would with 1, so thats where I am and Im greatfull to Mr Hancock for the help and advice, hope this helps mate but atb with what ever decision you make, Craig Quote Link to post
