JackWard 0
Hi I have fly fished a lot so far this season, without success. Could anybody give me any advice at all, on how to fish a worm or shrimp with a spinning type rod and normal reel (Not Centrepin). What water conditions How far should i cast out What time of day etc etc Thanks Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
you will be wanting to fish worm when the river is slightly coloured or in flood as this is the time that worms will be washed into the river with the rain. set up your rod with about 4 BB split shot and a size 6 or larger hook. bait as many redworms on the hook as possible or 2 large lob worms. cast above a likely lie and feel for any tugs on the line with your fingers as the worm/s drift downstream. give a salmon plenty of time to move off with the bait or you will not get a proper hook-hold. nakednutt 58
when fishing the worm I use a strip of lead through the swivel as it tends not to get caught on too many rocks. the shrimp is fairly easy if you know the depth of the river. just thread your line through through the shrimp pin and tie on a treble on the end and hook it on to the shrimp and fish below a stick float. you are better fishing it just off the bottom. I've always found it better at first light for salmon, usually setting up when its still dark. hope this helps Quote Link to post
