Born Hunter 17,837
What does everyone think to heavy loads, particularly for fox shooting. Today i bought some BBs for foxing, as before long we will be out with the terriers on the shoot n cracking on with some fox drives. The only cartridges they had in BB shot was 50gram 3" cardridges, so i bought 2 boxes of 10. Before i used 36gram loads with good success. How does the larger load differ other than the obvious, more recoil, and larger pattern? Do i need to consider a different choke and much difference in lead? For the purpose i use a 12 bore 3 shot semi with half choke. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Half choke is about maximum to avoid a completely blown pattern. Just use them as you have been using the 36's and you'll find little difference in range/capability, but you will notice a few go down faster without running on Oh and a sore shoulder Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
50 is getting to be a fair old load, only ever fired a couple that high, never bought any, never found a need, just to try. If that is all that was on offer then so be it, but 36 would be fine if you can find them next time. Not sure about choke but probably best not to go tighter than 1/2 Quote Link to post
soapy 23
buy your self triple a there great for foxes plenty of stoping power Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,837
They were all they had in lead shot so i thought i might as well. If nothing else they will ensure a clean kill, lol. Thanks for the replies Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
try the 54g 0's by remington, then you'll find out what a kick is.... you'll notice little difference other than recoil.... oh and a dead fox if your on target..... Quote Link to post
