got the 911 call

Recommended Posts

Well as i was off last wednesday.., i was getting a few things sorted, gave my bro a hane to launch his boat.. the daily grinds you know,

when i got back to the jeep the phone was beeping to let my know i had a missed call so i looked at the number and pushed call.....

it was the farmer i lamp with in the winter , begging me to come down, he bought 70 ducks and old foxy had cleaned 9 of them on the first night there...

i headed up to zero the rifle as i was still testing, and also chrono the rounds to see teh velocity..... which was averaged at 3099 fps..... with a 20 fps ES which was good...

So i headed home and done a set of drop tables up as quick as i could..

i headed of just an hour before dark...

He had a fair idea where foxy would be in a field not far from the slatted shed..

so of we set in the trooper and bingo 2 in the field and also 50 belted galloway cows and calves.... hmmm

stopped the jeep said what about the cows he said they'll be fine and to fire when i was ready...

out i hopped...

no need to range the first hes too close bang......... turned to the second who was making off to the wire and through it.... which i know is 210 yards give or take....

i adjust the turrets 4 clicks light on foxys is looking back i take the shot and hear the impact ranged both...... 118yards and 229 yards...

the tikka has first blood....

we just got out of the field and i looked across to the next charlie is walking about not a care....

ranged at 189 yards 3 clicks and bang....... foxy number 3 inside 10 minutes....

We headed of thinking we were very lucky, and i wanted an early night, but he insisted we go for a quick drive to "the haven" a place where we never left without a fox....

this is long range country and i can shoot across three fields as its a valley ....

we stop get out and lamp three foxes in the far fields, the field runs right to left facing us two at one end and one to the extreme right..

i range at 420 yards hes jumping like a looney after mice.. hard to get still.....

foxy walks a little towards us and settles looking into the grass... standing facing i pull the instant he stops walking again down like a stone... i'm well chuffed one of the foxes to the left makes a break for the cover but foxy two is too busy with something,

i range 404 yards foxy walks right slightly and squats for a crap..... BANG................... impact and another fox in the bag....

getting on the farmer tells me he'll pick them up in the morning.....

as i get into the jeep he greets me with the words "That was totally awesome"

i'm well chuffed and looking forward to the winter...

5 for the first night with the new toy and i'm grining from ear to ear...

get home an into the bed at 12-35 Am shattered..

but rather happy,

oh and a dozen duck eggs heavier.....
