hughesey1552 0
Hi, For the past couple of months when ive been shooting in the woods where my permission is, I've been seeing a couple of POB in the woods and they are regularly circling overhead. I have watched them a few times come in to a tree where im guessing they've got a nest. I was listening to them calling and one was in the woods and as i was crossing the field 2 more flew up from the trees and start circling. For the first time i got a close look. So, to the point can you help me identify them........they had roughly an 18 inch wingspan and had a split tail. Sorry for the vagueness. Ryan Quote Link to post

othickman 6
sounds like a buzzard pal Nah, buzzards have rounded, almost semi-circle tails, not forks like kites. Another thing that can distinguish red kites is that do the birds have 'fingers'? Kites are identified, when in the air, by their five or so (on each wing) 'fingers' and two forked tail. Whilst buzzards don't have these 'fingers' (well, they do, but they're so short that you can't really distinguish them except through bins), and their tail is (as shown) like a semicircle Look at illustration two in the top right. Oh, and listen to the red kite call (in archie's link) Quote Link to post
