THE GRIFF 8
I have just ordered a gun cabinet off ebay. The fixings that came with it are huge hex headed screws with large plastic plugs. The listing said the cabinet and fixings were up to british standard, so i have used all 4 to secure the cabinet to the wall. After reading a couple of posts on here i have noticed most people are using metal expanding bolts to secure there cabinets to the wall. The cabinet is in a cuboard on the landing and is fixed to a brick supporting wall, will the plastic wall plugs be ok, they do expand when you tighten them and it feels rock solid? Quote Link to post
landrover 6
it should be fine if there is no movement Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If it is FIRMLY affixed, then no problem! Quote Link to post
langouroux 14
just had mine checked as i moved address, i did have "proper" bolts but i couldn't bolt it flush to the wall because of the skirting board. in other words it was flush at the top, and a 3/4 inch gap at the bottom and i wasn't sure if they were going to approve it. i explained to the office that it was a rented house cant go hacking up skirt bopards blah blah...he said as long as it doesn't move when i pull on it, its fine by me. :clapper: Quote Link to post
stubby 175
just give it a good yank after fitting to see, I remembered afterwoods my FAO telling me not to use the fixings with a nut on the end, but go for the bolt type, I can understand why, as the nut type dont open out as much, whereas the bolt type can be expanded to twice their size Quote Link to post
