Panna 68
Jack Russell come in a lot of verity. The KC decided that to registrar them as pedigree, a breed standard would have to be made . The parson jack Russell is the name given to the dogs that match the KC breed standard. So your jacks are fine just not kc show type the KC also dropped the ....jack.....so they are just parson russells. the name was to similar to the cheaper version so it had to be dropped to get the price up Not really. The FCI separated the breed "Parson Jack Russell terrier" into 2 breeds as the height range was way too big and this isn't tolerated by the FCI. The one under 12" (30.5 cm) got the name Jack Russell terrier and the one over 12" got the name Parson Russell terrier. ATB, Anna Quote Link to post
burrowman 6
here is a link to the KC parson russell, with the breed standard on the right . http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/services...123FCB23DF65F1F Just checked out k.c. breed standard they say ideally 14'' but shorter sizes allowed thats a bit vague.I prefer what Anna says f.c.i two sizes above and below 12''. When measuring are withers the same as we call to the shoulders ? Quote Link to post
Bryan 1,362
The real measure of any "working" terrier isn't in inches or pounds and can't be quantified by a physical standard. Only the standard of work matters. Quote Link to post
miketrap24 1
call em what you want but at the end of the day if they are doing the work you want out of em then whats the prob their your dogs if your happy then no prob Quote Link to post
Malt 379
It makes me laugh. My JRT (short type) had litter mates that you could call parson types, how can they be classed as different breeds? This is how bad traits and start. By putting the same breed into two categories, you're effectively halving the gene pool. Not so much a problem if you breed worker to worker, regardless of type, but this type of breeding will become rarer once people start charging more £ for one of them. Quote Link to post
bedrock 16
The standards are not the be all and end all they are just what a group of people (the kennel club) recognize. Don’t let toughs wankers tell you what your dog is or isn’t just because it doesn’t comply with there bull shit standards that doesn’t make it any less of a Jack Russell than any of there gay pampered show dogs just because they don’t recognize it! Don’t worry about the pricks witch tell you any different the kennel club does nothing but spoil breeds of dogs and make money from breeding them. :realmad: That’s my rant over all the best bedrock Quote Link to post

You are right concerning the KC, they only have what is called Parson Russell, but I think FCI and KC does have a great influence on each other. From financial point of view it would be surely beneficial to the KC to keep the (short legged-long bodied version) as a different breed, because the more breeds the more peoople come to show and breed. All the best, Anna Quote Link to post
