Colchester made some nice bits of kit in their days. I worked on a few of them in my time. And yes I had the Emco for making bits for the large scale model planes I used to build. For all my bigger jobs I had the workshop of a shipyard at my disposal with mills lathes and all sorts of other gear, plus material for free. Happy days.

I'm thinking you must be an engineer of sorts Scuba, I don't think we have any more shipyards left in Britain?

Of sorts ............. well I have been called worse, even on here. But yes you are right I am an industrial mechanical engineer. I started of in the ship building side of things and then moved on to alternative energy and salt water desalination plants. Ended up under water not because I got the plumbing wrong but by choice. I worked as a diver for years.

foxon, how exactly is blueing done? Is it a kind of heat treatment?? Or is an industry secret?

Cheeers, Ryan

Hi Ryan, no secret just a lot of work in the prep, everything must be oil free & back to clean bright metal, the acid used is commercial & not safe for DIY use, takes many years to master, I still have many attempts at getting it right after 20 years on some jobs as there are many finishes, like deep blu, matt blu military type finishes on service revolvers & rifles, the list is endless, but recommend Phillips liquid blu for that adapter you are doing if it's in steel.
