Purse net pegs..

Recommended Posts

Hi mate my mate makes mine for me on his bed saw by using 10-12 mm wood cut into 2.5 inch rectangles and then cut them half inch off diaginal leaving you with a 2"( at top and .5 at bottom) they've worked for me for a good few seasons when painted either white gloss paint (makes them easier to see and protects them) and a cheap option i find. but hey this is just my way of doing things....atb

I bought a wee bag of firelighter sticks for 45p put a point on one end a drill a hole in the other. I had to sift through them to get good ones but still have half a bag in the shed. work well enough for me, and cheap to replace.

I Have Oak and Mahogany pegs, do the job fine, just cut from offcuts of wood i have left over at work, easy enough to find some old bits of wood and cut some wedges, drill a hole in one end and job done.

I find tent pegs tend to clunk around a bit.

Only use the metal ones now they are a tiny bit heavier

but the extra weight is worth it coz they go in any type of ground

never snap or rot wouldnt use anything else

If you do prefere wood hazel is quite good and most hardwoods

are good for making pegs everyone has there own prefrences

Mine are oak, very shoddy and crude but get the job done. Nothing fancy is needed really, all they do is get pushed into the ground, and are easily replaced.

Pegs are easily improvised too, if you've got a hedge and a knife, you've got pegs.

I get my Pegs made up at a Local Joiners. They are all shaped (rounded tops) Hardwood for 50pence each. I fill one of those big sweet jar containers full of Teak Oil and let the Pegs soak in it for a week or two. Then i let them Air for a week or two then i paint the Tops of the Pegs a Bright Yellow.

Done this for years and years now and i have no complaints using these Pegs, strong, light and visible so no more lost Nets etc......

i used tent pegs when i first started

but found they rattled and made loads of noise a right pain to carry

now i use hazel which are tied on to the draw cord

never loose any and not a sound

and best of all free
