sussexrick 0
Hi Guys, I'm a newbie here, but would really appreciate your opinions on my plans. I have held an FAC for 17HMR for almost 2 years now - I shoot rabbits and corvids (only on the ground) on my own land and wanted to put in for a variation. I want a 22LR for short distance rabbits and the lack of noise! and was thinking of a 22 Hornet for fox. I have no actual personal need to shoot foxes as I have no livestock apart from horses, but I do see them quite often and everyone around me shoots them if the opportunity presents itself. My questions are - Can I apply for both the 22LR and the 22 hornet in the same variation form? Is it too soon for me to apply for a centrefire (22 hornet) after nearly 2 years with the HMR? I don't have a huge amount of land (only about 10 acres) is this likely to result in a refusal for the hornet purely based on the relatively short range shooting (about 150 -180yds) Will the fact that I have no actual material need (no chickens!) mean I can't have a 22 Hornet? I know that no-one really knows the answers to these questions apart from my local FEO, but she was really trying to persuade me to go the FAC airgun route instead of HMR, but I dug my heels in and got the HMR. Any opinions gratefully received! Thanks Rick Quote Link to post

No I don't have a huge amount of land (only about 10 acres) is this likely to result in a refusal for the hornet purely based on the relatively short range shooting (about 150 -180yds) No, because Hornet is generally the smallest calibre they grant for fox. You might possibly get told to use 22 Magnum, but I doubt. Will the fact that I have no actual material need (no chickens!) mean I can't have a 22 Hornet? No. Do the foxes not leave shit about the place and eat the horse feed? They sure do at our yard! sussexrick 0
Thanks Mr Logic - that's just what I wanted to hear! Probably best to just put in the variation and see what happens . . . watch this space! Quote Link to post
sussexrick 0
Thanks Mr Logic! I will just go for it and see what happens! Will it matter if I get a slot for Hornet, but don't get a rifle for a few months? Thanks Rick Quote Link to post

jamie g 17
your be fine mate say you want 22lr for the silentness round the horses where the hmr is abit much. and then you want a 223 or 22/250 for the foxes. if the flo says well wont it be loud round the horses tell him you shoot them up the other end of the farm lol Quote Link to post
