Someone Had Fun Last Night

Recommended Posts

I set snares last night at around 9pm and checked them this morning, and something has done a number on the rabbits.

One snare has hair in it but no rabbits, with a couple of rabbit parts near it.

One snare has just a rabbit head with no body.

One snare has just the back end of a rabbit.

One 6 strand snare has been snapped

and One had a live rabbit in it.

Mr Fox certainly had a good night.

I've killed a lot of rabbits and thrown a lot away, this time of year rabbits caught in snares/traps are quickly fly blown... So it depends if its for the pot or for pure vermin control ? If they can be used I'll use them or sell them.. If not, some other creature will benefit from the bounty, fly, crow, fox whatever :D

I've never eaten rabbit and I don't want the hassel.

I catch them purely for pest control purposes, it's paddock land used for sporting type use and they dig holes and eat wooden equipment that's used.

If I knew someone who wanted them, they could gladly have them but I don't.

I guess I could ask a butcher.

Or falconers, or local zoos or animal type places, or pubs, or friends (including for their dogs, ferrets, etc). Being able to skin and gut a rabbit is a good skill to have.

By the way, something is just nagging me: ... by "throw away" you do mean leave in the field for something to come along and snaffle it and not "throw away" as in a bit destined for the land fill, right?
