Just for the record (or should i say for Mush),today i now have two bitches in season,a Jack Russell belonging to my son harehunter and my eldest sons Bedlington x,so this is as i was saying the reason i will have nothing to run in the hunting life competition,of my 2 Minshaw dogs i currently have one is 11 in September and has been retired for 3 years due to injury and Jack is 10 next June and as he will be retired at the end of the season, i think he has had his best days, the Beddy x will be around 11 weeks into her cycle when the competetion gets underway and as any dog man will know this is the time when a bitch should be pupping,it wouldn't be fair to run her at this time and obviously she would not be in peak fitness at this time due to not running.I know superstriker has 1/2 Minshaw bred adult dogs but one is also a veteran and his youngster is 16 month old and is ready for schooling in the next month or so,imo he did the right thing by not running the pup last season as he was a big leggy not fully developed dog and at the end of last season he was only 11 month old and as he is not a summertime hunter his dog will only begin his career from September,so i don't think he either will have anything to run.Tomo if your desperate to see a Minshaw dog running mate then the offer is open to come and have a night out with mine this winter(freehand hunting) :11: .As for Mush my offer is still open to you ,bring your 2 Bull x's and your Saluki.....don't forget the shovel, you'll need it.

Does it mater how old your dog is Andy ? its all meant to be about having a good time , it will be on video for all to see, No one is going to expect him to run like a young dog if he runs well for a dog his age ill be the first to say well done, and hay he may win that'll shut me up wont it. :11: :11:

As for your challenges we've been down that road before on hardcore, and that was it for me. you didn't want to do it as I wanted and I didn't want to do it as you wanted so thats it.

As for superstriker if he has nothing to run whats he challenging every-one who doesn't agree with him for ?

DO UNLIKE YOU WHO ONLY GOES TWICE MONTH AND I WAS TOLD THAT BY A LAD YOU GO SHOWS WITH

And whos that then :) as I've only been out with one on here, and I only had one run on a rabbit that was gone before the dog got there. So your either making it up or some ones feeding you a load of bull .

As for only lamping two times a month thats more bull, even tho lamping not my thing now.

Saying lamping is not my thing now doesn't mean I don't lamp, but its something I do when I'm not doing what I enjoy the most, or when I'm giving them their 5 mile run ill stop to give them a few runs on rabbits on the lamp.

Andy , i think u should run your old dog in the comp mate , he is 10 year old and has nothing to prove to anyone , but if he won , well it would be a good end to a long career,

The last Forley Legends cup , Alan sankey had 2 dogs he was running Blondie , who had allready won and come 2nd , and a young bitch called scrag who was shaping up to be the best bitch he had owned , the week before , we were talking about the on coming event , i was all for running scrag in the forley , but Alan said it was blondies last chance to run , so he ended up running her , she was 2nd , but any one who was there will tell u she was well past her best(3 weeks of 7) , she got more praise for coming 2nd and running the way she did , than when she won the Milleniun 6 when she killed 6 out of 6 to win .

Give him a go Andy im sure he will do u proud , win or lose ;)

i enjoyed reading the replys to my question bout minshaws lurchers. i never said the dog got 70 hares i said it got a mixed bag of bunnys and hares. any way i just couldn't get round them numbers but maybe thats cos i've never lamped land where it would possible to catch them numbers. i thought there was a lot of bunnies round my way but i aint seen nothing compared to the land some lads must lamp.

while i was reading the thread bout minshaws lurchers it told about a dog catching seventy hares and rabbits in one night. this cannot be true can it? is it a myth thats got bigger with time? not calling any one a liar but i would have to see that to believe it,if it is true then its truly amazing. 70 kills, if the dog had a100% kill rate and was out for say seven hours, which is a long night lamping,it would have caught and killed a bunny or hare every six mins!

I SAID THIS MONTHS AGO AND GOT STICK FROM ALL SIDES THERE IS A LOT OF FOLLOWERS ON HERE AND AS A FORUM WE SHOULD SAY WHAT WE BELEAVE

Experienced dogs will also take squatters efficiently and save a lot of energy. If there are lots of rabbits on the ground the lamper will have lots to choose from and can be selective. Saying that 70 rabbits take some carrying!!! My best was 10 rabbits and 1 hare and I was pooped!!

Why would you want to catch 70 in one night? why not go out and catch 10 or 20 each night over a few nights running? why try and wipe them all out in one go and risk blowing your dog out in the process? I remember a guy I used to go shooting with once said he used to have a lurcher and his best haul with the dg was 90 rabbits in the one night. When I asked what happened to the dog, he said it died of a massive seizure in the van on the way home :icon_eek: what I ask you is the fecking point of that? Even if he was exaggerating the number, which he probably was, the dog must have been pushed to the point of over exertion and how ever many it caught it must have been too many, the dog just couldnt cope. I would rather have a good haul taken over a few nights than one big one taken in one night. The damage that can be done to a dog through over-running it can be irreversible.

I have to agree with you why run your dog on so many rabbits paid or not and how can any one say if its the right breeding because no dog is bred for running all night in my eyes that is.
