allrounder 47
catching the rabbits is the easy part try carrying them all Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
A decent dog that knows the crack with squatters will bump up the bag considerably .My best bag is 25 ,caught with a bitch that was 1/2 lurcher ,1/2 terrier .She was hardly puffing and I know we could of easily doubled this had she not knocked a toe . IMO, the size of the fields is as much to play as the dog .Run an easy looking rabbit in a big field and it can take the dog out of the beam in the distance ,thus using valuable energy . samba 534
YES I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE TO CATCH 70 WITH THE RIGHT DOG AND CONDITIONS THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE IT WILL KNOW BUT I AM NOT ONE 45 MY BEST Quote Link to post
LDR 29
its not that hard to believe, if you have the game there to take in those numbers, its been done many times, i've seen a video of a mates dog taking 30 odd rabbits before it missed one and i've seen the end result pics of nights over 100!!! I've also seen recorded notes and the pictures to back it up of 200+ rabbits in a night with only 2 or 3 dogs, all off people on this site now....... ..... and they themselves will be the first ones to say that if they are there and the dog knows it's job its easy...ish done, but if you only get 20 runs in a night, then getting 15 is spot on....... skinnyrat 0
i dont think catching 70 in a night, with one dog, should be called easy,i would imagine that its the exception rather than the rule, calling it easy imo sends out the wrong message to the younger members, who may end up blowing thier dogs trying to match these numbers,i have no doubt that its possible, personally ive never seen a dog come close, maby thats because ive always tended to keep myself to myself, and havnt seen the amount of dogs run that a lot of you lads have. allrounder 47
its not as if the catch the rabdits in seconds them bunnies can give any dog a good run around twisting and turning and plus the dog cant catch every rabbit it runs so any dog that can catch 70 rabbits a night must be fit as fxxk and have loads of stamina Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
Why would you want to catch 70 in one night? Some lads are doing it for Pest Control. Some of the areas of ground that these lads work, 70 rabbits hasnt got much impact on the population I remember a guy I used to go shooting with once said he used to have a lurcher and his best haul with the dg was 90 rabbits in the one night. When I asked what happened to the dog, he said it died of a massive seizure in the van on the way home 90 is a good number for one dog. But to even think of catching that you must make sure the dog has got the right breeding in it, and is very fit. its no good giving a 30" bullx that amount of runs in a night. The 70 rabbits in question, i believe, was achieved by a MINSHAW dog. These dogs were bred to run and run and run all night long. Hope this helps Quote Link to post
chartpolski 25,142
Why would you want to catch 70 in one night?? 'Cause we were getting £1 apeice for them in the 70's, not that we ever caught 70 in one night, but 40-50 was regular bags. Cheers. Quote Link to post

chartpolski 25,142
Hi Locke, please tell me where on this thread is the "macho bullshit" or the "my dog is better than yours" is. A guy asked a question and got sensible answers, whats wrong with that ?? If you don't believe the bags that some of us used to get; fine. I personally have nothing to prove, been a dog lad for 40 years and hunted in places most people haven't even heard of, still hunting now. If you have nothing constructive to say, say nowt. Cheers.
