Coneytrappr 30
Would anyone put either of these breeds over a grey? Do you think one or both would bring anything of worth to a lurcher ....what advantages or disadvantages would you anticipate? Australian kelpie Blue Heeler These ain't my dogs, just pictures found in Google. I would be interested in everyone's opinions. Quote Link to post
tony d 0
not so sure about the heeler but the kelpie definately is being done. in the coney catcher series Phil Lloyd's dog is a Australian Cattle Dog/Grey tony Quote Link to post
wild rover 548
Both breeds have been crossed with whippets and greyhounds for years and other watered down crosses with mixed success. I have had ACD (blue heeler) crosses for the last 16 years, currently have a 8 year old first cross to first cross and a 18 month ACD/GREY/WHIP in my kennels, all been good hardy genuine workers, not hare coursers. Wild_and_Irish 11
There was a thread about the Kelpie a while ago so I know they re used and the heeler was bred out of the kelpie but thats as much s i know Quote Link to post
ASME IX 1
heres a first cross blue heeler to greyhound. there are a number of people on here with these crosses, they do seem to be marmite breeds, asme9 Edited July 28, 2009 by ASME IX Quote Link to post
fireman 10,912
I've got a Acd x pup at 9 months old and am happy with how she's coming on,got a good nose on her, ain't shy of cover, very loyal, clever and although not tall(23"ish tts)she's very strong and has very good feet and legs on her.She is faster than she looks and haven't knackered her out on mooches out or walks so seems to have some stamina about her, this winter will be the test. There was a thread like this a time back and we had some fine looking pics of both of these types of lurchers, there are a few about and the owners seemed pleased with them. Quote Link to post
Neal 1,867
Kelpies are great in their own right, why would you want to dilute that perfect breed with a mere greyhound? I'm just joking! Quote Link to post
CI HIR 13
What about the New Zealand Huntaway?I`ve never heard of one used to produce lurchers. They`re bigger, stronger and more aggressive than a Kelpie.I`ve seen a few bring down a sheep and hold it when required to do so. Quote Link to post
dawnraider09 75
the huntaway gives tongue when chasing, but outher than that a good hardy dog Quote Link to post
CI HIR 13
the huntaway gives tongue when chasing, but outher than that a good hardy dog Explains why they`re not used in lurcher production. Quote Link to post
blackpack 70
kelpie greyhounds in use already some very good dogs out there. My mate has one and is very good on all quarry from the bloke out of cmw forgot his name now he has a few dvds aswell Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
Good to know fellas, I was thinking that both could make interesting and productive crosses, always nice to hear of other's experiences That's a nice looking dog ASME IX, what game will he/she take? Quote Link to post
Sully 3
Doesnt Dave Sleight breed kelpie x's isnt Purdy from the dvd a Kelpie x ? Think so Quote Link to post
ASME IX 1
coneytrapper shes a very keen young dog but some times has retarded moments(i blame the stupid wedged headed greyhound bitch i used) , iv only used her for rabbits to be honist, she isnt the fastes dog in the world but if she did have that extra speed she would be capable dealing with anything thats put in front of her. as any acd lurcher owner will tell you this cross is no better or worse than most every day collie/saluki/whippet/bull/deerhound crosses .for me they just have a likeable attitude. one thing is definate i wont be with out one in my kennels. asme9 Quote Link to post
