I am looking at the bedlington lurchers Ta Tom If i was you get a pup, then you bring it up with the cats no prob's. If you go for a adult dog, you could have a prob, because you really wont know the temp of the dog.Even if the last owner say's its ok, unless you really no the dog, go for a pup. Quote Link to post

artic 595 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Share Posted July 28, 2009 Bird is right. I have 3 cats and all the dogs get on fine, no chasing, no snapping etc..... They were intoduced as pups, and the cats will always hiss and show their claws which is more than enough for the dogs to stop licking their lips and think twice. BUT be careful of other cats, as mine will and have chased the odd village TOM! Quote Link to post

The cats are both girls, i dont know wether that makes a difference Quote Link to post

nasher1 258 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Share Posted July 29, 2009 We have dogs and cats together and they are fine, you usually find the dogs are only to willing to except the cats into the household and its normally the cats which take the time to adjust, we had a staffy bitch and a silver tabby who were best of mates and used to hunt together around the aviarys but the staff was absolutley lethal on strange cats. A lurcher with a low prey drive kinda defeats the purpose of having a lurcher Anything you get, if you get it from a pup will likely be fine with your cats if you put the time in training them. They should know what things on your patch are off limits. I have a cat who mostly stops out. If he's in the house there's no problem. Any cats out and about tho are considered four legged snacks and worthy of intense stares at the very least. So you'll always have to be vigilant, in other words. Quote Link to post
mwncidur 0 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) Our lurchers are in regular contact with 2 cats at my sis-in-laws place, no problems at all. We also have 4 chickens at home, yes they both had a chicken in their mouths on the 1st day but soon got the idea that they were off limits you just have to be vigilant and keep up the training.
