Just trying to get the dog used to the ferrets

At one time I used to like those chicken BBQ crisps, but I got bored with them and cant look at a packet now, perhaps if you fed Madge enough ferrets she might get bored eating them, just a thought

 

Well i may just feed the dogs the little gits , did i tell you about there escape attempt on sat there really quite naughty & i havent had kits this willfull for years , there all the same , not one laid back ferret amongst them

their worse than kids I have a mesh door on the front of my shed to stop cats and my dogs running up the front of the cages, there was a two inch gap at the top of the door, only had enough wood for that sized door, while I was watching the kits run around the shed, Anikah run up the mesh, over the top of the door onto the shed roof, climbed down a clemitis into the fruit garden, I only noticed she'd gone because my shepherd had disapeared, he' d cornered her under the rubarb

Sounds familiar does that , i had all 4 of them on the shed roof i was stressed out beond belief on Sat so knowing i had no electric till monday at the earliest & then the 4 bratts on the roof & me up a ladder trying to grab them while they danced on the roof & then screecing at half baked Harry here to get the f*****g carry box out the shed you pratt , then him slamming the lid on there heads as they continued to escape out of the box

Dont tempt fate i did come back from a day out to find 4 crammed in a carry box some yrs ago

my bitch happily works along side them and me hob ferret will give a lil reminder as to whose boss! in regards to me pups they will completly ignore thanks to me jill giving the bitch a decent bite on the lip after she pounced on the ferret, pup wailed and legged it, and never touched them again! poor pup but it worked

all my dogs have been introduced to the kits and me bitch mothered a poorly one so i've been lucky

what I did kay, was get a tube of ferret paste, the jrt loves the stuff, then putting a big blob on the wire, so both ferts and dog are licking it at the same time, from different sides of mesh, she soon got used to them,

Only you can decide if she's trustworthy its really hard with a older dog to break them and when there working in the heat of the moment she might snap you will never totally know

I would feel happier if she could be trusted , incase i have any escapees on the yard, my previous dogs were very good with any ferret i brought here, but having them as pups was the key i think , i really dont think she will ever be able to be trusted with one loose , even if i muzzled her she could still kill one using her feet

She would more than likely batter it with the muzzle, there have been plenty of small animals killed this way when an owner has thought a muzzle would solve problems.

yes totally agree with you on the muzzle . i have spent a lot of time watching her & just observing how she behaves and i spotted how she will use her feet when trying to access something as well as her nose
