Similar knife???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

post-26598-1248676851.jpg

just a quick question, this is a Jack Pyke knife....given to me as a gift a while ago, I don't think i have ever been able to get it very sharp. have used a sharpening steel, whetstone etc and it doesn't seem to gain a decent edge or keep what little it has. i think it was probably a cheap knife but looking at the picture does anyone know of a similar more expensive knife of similar style and proportions??

the size and feel of the knife together with and position of the finger hole is ideal and it is a shame i cant get any edge.

the handle is only about 2" long, the full blade is about 3 1/2", with the edge of the blade onlt 2 1/2" long.

any advice or knowledge willingly accepted.

Bladetech are good little sharpeners, very handy, but also a bit harsh.

The 'Spyderco Sharpmaker' is very good and easy to make knifes 'scary sharp'. & they are preset for putting on a back edge, equivalent of a regrind.

Most butchers only sharpen knives, most send them to a sharpener for a re-grind,. ;)

cheers, it is a lovely little knife, i ain t sure it was ever finished properly as the tip and the bottom end didn't really have any edge at all what little edge the rest of the blade had has never taken a good sharpening....i have got a bench grinder somewhere but i would be scared silly of ruining it....may get one of the hardware shops to see if they can put an edge on it, that i can just sharpen when needed!!!

I use one of these, they are brilliant on my helle and buck knives. I also use it on the kitchen ones to ;) "Use one once and you'll be a master " someone told me before i got one and they were bloody right they are very easy to use once you get the hang of it.

try this

I have a Kershaw lock blade it was useless at holding an edge, local butcher told me about Peter Maturi's in Leeds they used to sharpen butchers knives right across the city. I took it in and they ground it for me the difference was unbelievable and I just keep up to it with a diamond stone blue or red

Y.I.S Leeview

ps cost less than a pint for grinding
