Guest rodsmith
although i dont no longer have a running dog i used to plus some of the lads i invite down run thiers on rape.as yet to have an injury but injuries can happen on any ground. Quote Link to post
woodga 170
only after the frosts have softened the stems i have been unfortunate enough to see a dog blinded by stems while running them shortly after they have been swathed i would not think about putting my dog onto a field with thousands of potential spears for a rabbit or other quarry but some lads do and will at the end of the day its up to the individual Quote Link to post

Guest Rod&dog
Would you not say maize stubble could posses the same potential danger as the rape stubble? Quote Link to post
hopelander 0
ive only ever seen one field of it up here and thats before it was cut,it seems to hold plenty whilst standing whats the stubble like? Quote Link to post
bonanza 0
I got a tiny piece of rape straw in my arm years ago and within 24hrs it had balloned to twice its normal size and was full of pus and gunk. So no, I try not to run my dog on it. Quote Link to post

Guest joe ox
Ive had dogs injured with quite bad stab wounds around the stopper area but if there is something I want to run on them I would. There wont be as many about as previous years as last winter/spring there wasnt half the amount of rape fields about as previous years not sure if its subsidized anymore? Quote Link to post
inan 841
only after the frosts have softened the stems i have been unfortunate enough to see a dog blinded by stems while running them shortly after they have been swathed i would not think about putting my dog onto a field with thousands of potential spears for a rabbit or other quarry but some lads do and will at the end of the day its up to the individual I totally agree ,they have cut it down here [Kent] ,but the stalks look like small javelins,no way is one of my dogs reaching down for a pick up on that shit. I will give it a miss till the cold breaks it down a bit. Quote Link to post
Lurchandhistribe 0
loads of it this way. wouldnt touch it other than for pigeon shooting till october. I dont see the point in spending weeks getting a dog fit, for it to pick up a nasty injury. Quote Link to post
