I actually prefer going out hunting with dogs than anything else, but its just not efficient, thick hedgerows and woodland its difficult, also lamping its all too easy to make a small area very lampshy... IanB 0
I think I'll agree to disagree... Whats the point in starting name calling people, don't go down that route lads, it starts to get tit for tat.. Seriously we all have our own opinions, and from experience, I could go out with a decent lurcher cover a lot of land and get 100 if the dog was capable but the fact is, I'd be covering a large area, I'd scare a lot more than I killed, missed ones and others would sharp become lamp shy after a couple of weeks.. Its just too inefficient but great fun, the best really... Your never going to beat snares/traps/nets or shooting for getting rid of animals, apart from gassing and thats not 100%... glass22 0
To be honest dogs would not be any good for the location, as theres not much of a run until they're in the warrens. Quote Link to post
perthshire keeper 1,239
fenn traps (mk6).....falcons and hawks.....lurchers and running dogs.....terriers.......cage trapping.....a car FENN TRAPS AND CAGE TRAPPING, HE WANTS TO GET THE NUMBERS DOWN, NOT CATCH 1 OR 2 AT A TIME.... YOU'D GET MORE THROWING STONES......... ime sorry my man but i have to disagree with you their fenn traps are very good at trapping rabbits its easy to get 6/7 rabbits out of 10 traps one in each hole of fill in all the holes losely then trap the ones that have been opend out .... all thou this will also be very hard to do as the holes are under a hedge Quote Link to post
andy mecca 5
enter the ferrets and stand back with a shotgun,"great fun!!!" SO HE WILL HAVE TO GET A GUN LICENSE AND GET PERMISSION TO SHOOT A SHOTGUN ON THE LAND, AND LEARN HOW TO AIM AND NOT MISS A MOVING TARGET,... JUST USE LONG NETS PAL... NOTHING MORE EFFECTIVE... ITS ALRIGHT SAYING USE LONGNETS BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO GET THE RIGHT WIND, WEATHER CONDITIONS TO PUT A DENT IN THERE NUMBERS AND THATS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING Quote Link to post
arnieboy 93
Hi. So far I'm shooting and snaring. I cannot get to the rabbits warrens because they're in thick hawthorn. trapperman 474
what i sometimes do in a difficult situation like that is to put up a temp rabbit fence 3` chicken mesh with canes with holes in the bottom every 5 or so metres then either snare the holes or attach 2 foot wire tunnels and trap them the wire is cheap if you get it online 2" holes are fine about 30ish quid for 50m. this way you get the rabbits to go where you want them, i give them a few days to start using the holes then your away.
