a couple with the boss

Recommended Posts

Had the boss over for a few days stalking , fishing and the like... We blanked on the first morning, saw a few, more than i expected, but one thing or another let us going home empty handed.. the following morning saw us up on our higher ground, we glassed a good buck (for the hill) but it decided to go off on one, running one way then the other and back again, it did this for a minute or so then went out over the top, may be next time.. we nearly bumped two bucks feeding on the grass in amongst the heather, i got him in to about 80 and after what seamed life a life time he took the shot and down it went, a typical hill buck, also i took a photo of the veiw from where he grassed it..

That evening saw us back on the low ground looking for something a little better in size, we galssed and stalked a reasonable beast in the duck ponds(not literally) but after much fannying on with the sticks he missed his chance, typical i thought, but as luck would have it the beast ran into a better buck which saw him off after a lenght of the silage field, as luck would have it the 2nd of the two came strutting back to claim his ground, bad move, taken at about 50 off the sticks (the nasty black plastic ones, lol ) a good comparison of a hill and low ground bucks (and yes the rifle on the last buck has been placed to cover a bad shot placement, liver and gut, having said that it nearly fell on the spot as dead as they come)

Is there a differance in taste between the high and low ground Roe? as I guess they eat differant foods?

It's one of my favorite meats but I've only ever tasted it from the Somerset levels.

Cheers

Luke.
