Memories of a first season

Recommended Posts

Going back through the diary i have kept about how fly has done in her first season of work i read of some great tallys we have took together .Flys first rabbit is one that always makes me proud of my dog ,just like many others first rabbit i guess.

But theres three other memories i will mainly talk about or think back to ,the first is catching 17 rabbits whilst lamping ,fly actually only caught 12 and my dads bitch fern (litter sister) caught the other 5 .Not a great tally but a great score for lamping local .we would have struggles to catch 5 the season before with our previous dog so you can see why we were so proud of our dogs that evening and we havent since accounted for the same amount on the same ground.

My second best memory is flys first retrieve on a deer ,the said deer was a munty which i must say she did struggle a little with before she could make a neck hold and dispatched it.She had been involved in 3 deer retrieves previous doubled up but i wasnt able to see if she was the one who had pulled the deer down ,though her first run on a deer she was the first to attempt to flip the Roe by its back leg but failed but regained her place back in the course but the deer had already been brought down just before she could try again...

My final and most talked about memory is catching 83 rabbits whilst lamping up the dales ,this time i was lamping with a mate TOMO and his bitch Tara .Fly caught 43 on the night and tara the rest ,what a great achievment for a first proper season and one i believe i will struggle to reach again.

Please feel free to add your achievments, memorys and tales that took place last season!!

good hunting all

well my best achievment with my pup has got to be the 5 rabbits he caught in one night which is good to say he was 10 month old (11 month now). it just felt amazing as every field i was going to he was picking them up.

fawn or brindle?

both lovely lurchers!

whats the breeding?

Thanks mate shes the brindle one but i know my dads bitch (fawn colour )is doing very well .She has not had the chance to run as much as fly but i know she will also be a real handy juckel .The dam was a whippet greyhound and the sire was a mix of deerhound ,collie ,whippet and greyhound.

good hunting

Thank you fukitol ,if you get in contact with TOMO he might be able to help you as he does have a litter on atm out of two very good dogs.

Cheers Sully we'll have to get out a couple times next season together , i just love to hunt and im sure that goes for nottzhunter ,YOUrself and many others . Watching my lurcher do what her ancestors would once do before her to survive is a great buzz.

Hows your pup coming on?
