Llanshooter 0
I'm new to mole trapping abut have been doing a school near us. Just two areas had mole problems in visible places (public school, like their lawns smooth). My mate and I managed to clear 14 moles from these two areas in a couple of weeks and they are now clear. The problem I have is that there is one mole on a small area of grass that is driving me nuts. The tunnels are in a very tight area but cross over and under each othe all the time . Some are just under the surface and others 10 inches or so below. They seem to intersect each other too. As its a small area I've not put too many traps (duffus) in at once, but I think I must have opened up most of the tunnels by now. The b%&%&^$^$% just seems to dig round the traps or fill them in and push up a new molehill right next to them. Since we've had loads of rain lately the ground id so soft that I'm having difficulty detecting the tunnels with my probe. ANY IDEAS????? Quote Link to post
glass22 0
Hi. Two options 1. Make your traps way more sensative as soon as he detects the trap it needs to of already been set off. 2. Get a couple of Talpex seeing as they work diffrently. Hope that helps! Quote Link to post
trappa 518
Personally i would bang as many traps down as possible. Most of the time i go for quality rather than quantity of traps but it sounds like you want to stick a shit load down, mole will make a mistake at some stage if your traps are set well. 410phil 4
Howdy Make sure that the trap cannot rock from side to side or backwards and forwards in the hole you have excavated by packing it at the sides with a sod of earth from the earth you cut out to find the run also make sure there is no grass in the bottom of the run and clear the run each side with a spoon or run clearing tool. Make sure the kill loops are pushed into the soil slightly so the mole does not feel them as he enters the trap also make sure the triggers are pointing towards the kill loop and not straight down you can achieve this by setting the trap and then bending the triggers forwards this makes the trap operate more quickly and ensure a kill around the thorax of the mole thus killing it pretty much instantly. Any other pointers you need just drop me a line Remember quality not quantity if its set right it will catch. All the best Phil www.molebegone.info Quote Link to post

Traps set to a hair trigger-nearly had my fimgers off a couple of times setting them. Holes are usually tight and I have been packing then. I tamp the floor of the runs down with before placuiing the traps and remove all debris. All by the book, but no good. I went back last night and lifted the traps because the gardener had mowed the area and destroyed all the sticks marking the traps in the process. Also no fresh sign of activity - hopefully all the rain has drowned the sod. The tunnels really do seem to be really complex, I'm wondering whether he has broken into some older, exisiting tunnels. I'll have another look over the weekend when hopefully there will be fresh hills and the ground a bit drier. Quote Link to post
410phil 4
I have pulled moles out of traps where the tunnels are flowing with water surprisingly they are amazing swimmers. Do you use markers for every trap in an area if you know how many traps are in one area just tie some hazard tape to the trap and then this is below the level of the blades and can be seen in the soil instead of having to peg every trap.I find this works very well in public parks where no one is looking for little bits of hazard tape stuck out of a little square of dirt. Sorry I am waffling any more help you would like just ask and if I can help I will All the best Phil Quote Link to post
nod 285
there is a trap called the victor impassable it is perfect for the moles than run a the surface, but if on public place will need to be set at last light and checked at first light cause they aint small traps that u can hide Quote Link to post
410phil 4
there is a trap called the victor impassable it is perfect for the moles than run a the surface, but if on public place will need to be set at last light and checked at first light cause they aint small traps that u can hide I am pretty sure that the victor or anglo impassable is illegal as you are not aloud to use a trap that causes death by piercing the animal Regards Phil Quote Link to post
