That might be the only thing but the ones ive saw where skittish shy and retiring and i wouldn't want to stick my hand into a dead end to retrieve a rabbit with one of them beside it

kay what you have said is spot on

i have a white jill here that is an adult an has eaten slughs her whole life

my ferrets have been using an removing bedding in an out of theyr sleeping boxes all year, depending on the weather

like i said i aint saying i dont belive you kate

but what i am saying be carefull what you belive

ill get a pic of my normal feret at some point today, she is almost identical to your hybrids

if these kits indeed have a high percentage of polecat in them then kate as a breeder has a responcibility to ensure they are plased in very carefully selected homes, i really dont reccomend they go to anyone with no experience of hybrids , they arnt my cup of tea personally but i know the colour alone will attract all sorts of people but i just feel she has bred '' mixed up'' accidents waiting to happen , there little time bombs , neither one thing or another

Best of luck in homing them Kate

not trying tae piss on anybodys fire here

but how dae you guys know they are genuine wild polecats??

as there is no way of knowing, or did the breeder tell you that,

iv seen 2 hybrids in my life an both were owned by a man that had ferets for over 30 years

an they never tamed in 7 years even tho he hand reared them

i have a kit here that is identical tae yours in that it is very dark

but like you said it is like a kitten with me an the kids, an i know it come from normal domesticated ferets

Dotty

the fella got them from a zoo under licence, and there a thing these pole cats do tht iv never witneset a ferret do, this jill will work rabbit and then start rolling a slug across the ground trying to get the slime of it,and then eat it. when she was in kit she had 3" of shavings in her day run, but she pulled all of it into her bed to make a nest, it looked like it had been swept out,and there are charactoristics a ferret just dose't do.

there is no gaurante these kits will be as dark as there mother, there 7/8 back to pure and one kit has mit feet and white eye brows but the others look dark.

i have the revers of this matting to and albino jill and all kits wer abino

Got an albino hob who will eat slugs and snails and all manner of things and mine are always shifting their bedding about, not a hybrid amongst them.

To be honest i dont think you can base the progeny on eating slugs & scraping saw dust into the bedding area, i have seen ferrets do both the things you describe , what limited experience i have with polecats is they behave very diffrently , they skulk, they dont crap in one place & i think most importently they dont smell the same as ferrets , and of course there nocturnal generally

What i will say is if these kits are 75% polecat then as they grow they will no doubt behave differently to a ferret, so homing them is going to be hard , making sure whoever takes them is 100% , they really not for the faint hearted

i take every thing you say on board matey but, they are 7/8 back to pure ferret so not that high % of pole cat,and to be honest this breeding has gone on for years, my first half cross i got was from james makay when i was only 9, i never had a problem with that one or any others,

each to there own

ps i would say theres more of you out there with a dash of pole cat than you might think

to be honest you can argue the toss for ever, the jill has worked well for 4 seasons and the hob, i have all my fingers and toes, most the kits are going to friends that have seen both work and a 3 wer going to people of her, so on that note happy hunting

if those that wonted the 3 could let me know if they still wont them please

7/8(87.5%) x pure polecat ferret(100%) would give 15/16(93.75%) kits which is a VERY HIGH %

So by your calculations these kits are virtually pure polecat , i take your word for it i dont do factions  , imo that changes everything regarding suitable homes for these animals, one hell of a responsibility on the breeder

if something is pure it is 100% FACT mated to something 7/8(87 1/2%) =187 1/2% divided by2 =93 3/4% VERY CLOSE TO PURE as I stated

Erm its only the jill thats 7/8 pure polecat.

The opening poster said the hob is a medium sized polecat coloured ferret.

So they are not almost pure polecats.

Mind you I still dont agree with breeding them at all.

Humans have summat like 97% the same genetic make-up as Chimpanzees.

So 93.75% isn't that close.
