Hi from SW Cornwall

Recommended Posts

Hi folks

I have been involved with field sports for quite some time and thought I'd join up. The main reason I'm here is because I am looking for a new dog. I kind of hope that there are reputable, caring breeders in my area that could help me out. I live in South West Cornwall and have a lot of permission to shoot, ferret and course. I am looking for a Bedlington/Whippet pup. I'm not so concerned about sex but I want a little one. The dog is mostly needed as a hunting companion/pet that can work when I want it to.

Looking forward to meeting you all in the forums although I'm not likely to be a huge post contributor.

If anyone knows of a good, reputable and caring breeder in SW Cornwall with pups for sale. Please drop me a PM.

Thanks folks

Mat

Hiya Matt,

Some friends a few months ago were looking for one and ended up having to go to Devon, (we live in St. Awful) Will look in the local agric merchants windows for ya as I'm in and out a few times a week...

Cheers :)

:welcomeani: to The Hunting Life ;)

Good luck in finding your pup, Beddy Whippets take a lot of training and can be quite head strong. Mine is, she's lovely but stubborn.

I agree with you Storm Chaser, they can be headstrong. But, saying that, they aren't scared of the dark, snapping twigs or paper bags. Persistance in training will result a in a succesful worker, a great companion for the hunter and as a family pet as I'm sure you will agree.

Cheers

PASTIE

is it bedxwhip or whipxbed, your after there's a difference, we breed both and have never had a prob, regards 'stuborn'

crackin' little dogs, and a good startin' point for the future, make sure you 'do your homework' before you make your choice, and be prepared to travel, a good breeder will take into account, the distance you travel, and reflect it in the price!

Ah well, now you've got me. :icon_redface:

What is the difference???

I want a dog thats going to have a good family temperament but can work when needed. If the difference is only appearance then it's got to be small, blue (19") and coarse haired.

I would happily travel some distance on a regular basis to meet and get to know the right dog. My mind is now set on a bitch. The trouble with living in SW Cornwall is that it's a long way to anywhere and I don't have a huge amount of time to dedicate to running up and down the country.

I appreciate your advice and would welcome more if you are happy to give it. I've grown up with gun dogs and terriers all my life and am quite capable of putting the training in. I have worked with friends lurchers quite a lot recently but I have never owned one. It's the dog I've always wanted since I was a kid. I am 36 now so it's been a long wait to find the right dog :clapper:

I wonder where you are located and whether you could help me with my search????

Cheers everyone

Mat
