woollyback 0
I think the general rule is you can get one on or after your first renewal (5 years+). Thats what my constabulary told me anyway. But there are exceptions and I know a few folk on here will have open licenses from their first application. Its all down to the land you have, calibres and experience - thats why they usually wait the 5 years or so that you've hopefully built up a substantial amount of knowledge. Quote Link to post
camokid 125
well i have had air rifles all my life and own shotguns and have shot 22 rifles before the land would not be a problem there is a lot big fileds and it has been passed for fac so fingers crossed thanks Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I'd say you won't have an Open FAC on first applications despite having experience with Shotguns and Air Rifles, Rimfire and Centrefire rifles are completely different. The vast, vast, majority in England and Wales will have a closed FAC on application. Quote Link to post

camokid 125
not really need as such. more interested in how it works. so if you get more land after you have got your fac do you then look into if its been passed?? and contact the police to look into it ??????? Quote Link to post

RicW I was thinking that also. An open license lets you decide on the suitability of the land you are going to shoot over, if you acquire some new land and have an open license you dont have to contact your constabulary. But if all of your land you currently have is passed your laughing. Just apply for your license to be opened on your renewal, that way you'll have 5years experience with centrefire/rimfires. camokid 125
so an open licence is the way forward but its good to have the five years experience got ya... thanks Quote Link to post
RicW 67
so an open licence is the way forward but its good to have the five years experience got ya... thanks Yeah. An open licence isn't about what you can shoot it's about where you can shoot. If you have legal access to a big area then you only need to get legal permision on your certificate for your calibres. Frankly your'e a jammy sod. Just go ahead and shoot! Ric Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
not much chance at grant inless you can prove you really need it. if you lived in scotland you would more then likely get it 1st time with out asking ! if i where you just try and get granted 1st then in so many months time try get it open after you have had it for abit. like whaqt has been said it mite be they wont let you have it open till after the 5 years when you renew Quote Link to post

mike white 1
I live devon and got my fac in febuary which was a closed ticket , in may i put in for a variation as wanted a .17 hmr and another .22 lr which was granted within a week , when i was reading the ticket had noticed that i now had an open ticket to my surprise , just to make sure i aqquired some land the week after and sent in a land form the next day i had a answer machine message saying i didnt need it checked as i had an open ticket and was up to me to decide if it was safe to shoot. So dont really know how they decide who gets one as only had my fac for 3 months. Quote Link to post
