Red fox survey and the hunting ban

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a Master student at Leeds university and for my final project I am investigating if the is a change in the population size of Red foxes in England and Wales due to the ban on hunting with Hounds.

I am doing so by comparing the observations and experiences from different groups that work or observe foxes since before 2005. I am contacting conservationist, farmers, landowners and gamekeepers for their experiences before and after the hunting ban was enforced.

I am lacking information from gamekeepers and/or people working with game species, so if you or anyone you know fits into this please take couple of minutes to fill in the survey via the link below. The results will be shared with NFU and several Wildlife Trusts throughout England and Wales, so please see this as an opportunity for you opinion on the subject to be heard and shared with these groups. Others are also welcome to fill in the survey.

The survey is anonymous so feel free to give me your opinions, and if you feel like you cannot, will not or a question does not apply to you just skip it.

To do the survey paste the link below into the toolbar.

Any questions please let me know.

Hi.

I never whent on a fox hunt, just out of curiousity how many foxes would a hunt usally get?

Sorry I do not know this, I know that before the ban hunting with hounds culled 21,000-25,000 foxes annually and there was 196 registered hound packs. It depends on the size of the group and how frequently they go out.

If someone else knows, that would be great.

You do not have to have hunted foxes to fill in the survey, if you hunt some other species that information could be used as well.

No offence meant, but your doing a masters degree and you cant seem to check your spelling for the survey for you final piece, you ask people whether the hunts they know of are still hunting illegally and you wish them to put the names of these hunts and you also ask people which methods of control they use including gassing and poisoning

To answer your comments:

First nobody puts their name to this survey, if you fill it in I have no idea who you are the closest I come to knowing this is the part of the country you are from it is completely anonymous.

Second several have answered that they use gassing/poisoning as a method of killing, leaving this out of the survey would therefore give the wrong results. I am not trying to judge people who do this or take legal actions I am only trying to give a representation of fox hunting, this may include illegal methods.

Gassing is in itself not illegal the problem is finding a poison that is legal.

And there are none for foxes, therefore poisoning and gassing is illegal.

I've done your survey BTW, and good luck with the masters.
