bullxryno 21
A question for whippet owners/breeders why are most whippet bitches bred off while still only being 2 -3 yr old.3 yr old have done what ? ok its a kc thing but im sure its also to make money? you wouldnt breed off a 3 yr old lurcher bitch, well i wouldnt, they havnt proved themselfs. I don't normally breed off a bitch until it's had 3 seasons work. However i lost Vixens dam a couple of months ago and would like a pup myself to bring on. vixen is due in season any time now but i'm not going to get her covered until the spring, when she's had another seasons work under her belt. Vixen has done everything i've asked of her and more and that was in her first full seasons work, I ran her alongside charpolski's bitch Delta when he visited a for a couple of weeks last season and maybe he will comment on her ability. I certainly wouldnt breed from an untested dog thats why i'm waiting to see how she gets on in her second season before i breed from her. There is no way i'll buy a whippet pup from elsewhere, when i know what i'm going to get from my own stock I can't speak for others but i can assure folk that my dogs are worked and worked hard throughout the season, there definately not weekend warriors. There out 2-3 days a week ferreting and a couple of nights a week lamping. I'm not in to breeding for the money anyone will tell you that, but some ARE. As i've mentioned i only breed when i want a pup myself. I've kept a pup back from the only two litters i've bred. I charge a fair price for my pups. the home is more important to me.. its true mally is a good lad! and he does only breed when he wants a pup!! we will be wanting you soon mally my old mucker to take some pics!! I've been to Mally's a few times, and he's been up here ! I am a great supporter of Whippets and had a few in my time ! They are cracking dogs at what they do, and Vixen is one of, if not the, best, i've seen !! I saw her make a catch and retreive, on the lamp, and Mally asked what I thought; I simply said....10 out of 10 !! I've seen this bitch on the lamp, daytime, ferreting, and on Hartley... no complaints !! Mally offered to place a pup with me but I needed something bigger, for what I do, but if I wanted a Whippet bred pup, I couldn't go past this bitch. Cheers. Quote Link to post

Pennymeadow Whippets 0
The third is our new pup, Murphy. He is roughly 4-5 months old and his obediance is comming on well. He was bred from racing stock. His sire was WRCA Evansent and his dam was Parkstone True Blue. He seems aloty lighter built than the other two and has a racy frame. Thisn he is going to be quick and he is very fiesty. I know this breeding well WRCA Evansent is a fast dog & Parkstone True Blue is a cracking bitch i used her brother Parkstone Black Gold on a sooty sam bitch & the pup i kept was 20 yards faster than his dam my mate owned their grandsire Rowangarth Dawn Wind & he ws a show dog that could catch rabbits with ease in on permission in Derbyshire. He is comming on well, only time will tell though. Are you comming up to the Lure Coursing in Edinburgh in August? All being well it was a top day last time at Stirling Quote Link to post

Some of the dogs take as long as 3 years before you get the best from them most bitches start much earlier best option to gee the dog up is a rabbit/hare skin tied to the end of a pole gets the dog chasing & striking they soon pick up after that. blackstaff 488
Does anyone know of any good working whippets down this way ? I'm looking for one to possibly cover my bitch in about a month or so. I've got a dog earmarked that is a friend of a friends dog, but always looking for the better option. Quote Link to post
