First trip out with the new rifle

Recommended Posts

Went out this evening on some new permission, the underkeeper was showing me the boundries as he wanted me to thin the rabbits out a bit. i chanced my arm a bit by taking both rifles with me the rimfire and my new sako 223. its my first centrefire so was keen to get it out. anyway i put both rifles on the back seat and the underkeeper set off showing me the inns and outs of where everything was. We was just discussing the amount of hares that was about when about a 150 yards up a hedge in the grass i spotted some ears sticking up asked him to pull over so he stopped far side of the hedge and i got the 223 off the back seat walked through the gap in the hedge and gave a little squeak. now i have squeaked a few foxes in for the dogs (pre ban of coarse) before but never have i had one run in so fast, so i shouldered the rifle hoping this fella would stop but no, he kept coming. now the excitement was now running straight down my arms which certainly didnt help to keep the rifle steady i pulled the trigger and Bang the fox rolled over! Now this was a big relief as i have only owned the rifle a week and it was its first trip out hunting. This also meant a happy keeper and me getting a free reign, NICE!

Yep gossy its a 75 hunter and i stumbled on it purely by chance, went to have a look at a second hand tika. but saw it and changed my mind quickly it was over my budget so didnt bother with a moderator or tripod, but no regrets.
