Ive been pickling loads this last week. Beetroot sliced and whole, onions and eggs but am going winkling tomorrow and was thinking about getting a load and pickling them.

They must be pickleable as you can buy mussels etc in jars so whats the way to go about it? anyone?

My old man used to do this when we went to Ainsdale as kids. All he did was boil them till they opened, throw away the unopened ones, put them in vinegar...Why not get a few mussels while your there and throw them in too....

Take some salt and get yourself some razor clams at low tide ;) ...in for a penny in for pound

as for winkles,i just simmer em in boiling water for 5 mins shell em and put em in jars wi vinegar and plenty salt and white pepper,i warm the vinegar slightly just so the salt an pepper mix in better and when they cool put em in fridge, not sure how long they keep, mine dont last that long.....also mate winkles are at there best in the winter months ;)
