Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Went to a place near Cirencester for a call with the buttalo .Set up in a plantation of fir and newly planted broadleaves .Got a bush behind me which was to be the reason i never got to pulled the trigger .Let it settle for a while and saw a doe cross an opening at the very end of the plantation .A few sets of fieps produced nothing so i started a louder set of calls and was aware of a deer coming to my left ,although i couldnt see it at all .The bush i so thoughtfully chose as a background was now the reason i couldnt see what was coming .I kept still for a while and saw the shape of a deer coming around the bush only 6 feet from me .It was a very pretty doe with huge eyes and long lashes ,she was very close and to top it all she had twins at foot .These two were like peas in a pod and about half a metre tall .They had no idea what was happening of course and i was amazed to see them stick out their necks ,testing the wind as was their mother .The trio were there for what seemed like ages with the doe staring at me right in the eyes and the kids ,bored ,eventually nibbled at the undergrowth and one even trying to suckle .Another rustle from beyond these signalled another deer and it was a buck ,his head just visible between the does ears .He had that stare that only a mature buck has and fixed me squarely at eye level .There was no way i was chancing moving round and spoiling this scene so i just took it all in .I need a permanent photographer with me really as this needed documenting but then again we all see things that only our memories can recreate . The doe moved forward ,still with me her centre of attention and i was able to see the twins fully as they trailed at her back legs ,this turned to a trot and she was gone .I then became aware that the buck had vanished as only they can . All the shots ever fired will not make up for moments like this . I left the plantation in peace and stalked the rest of this arable land seeing only does heads in corn and getting a thorough soaking when the heavens opened a bit later . Quote Link to post

Great write up nice to here of your meeting with the doe as you say memorable & amazine to see & not often seen. It makes a whole experiance & the hobbie worth it. Im going to try & video some action this year & hope to get what you experianced but in my area due to cover i only see kids heads behind the doe when they are bounding along. Quote Link to post
