Tikka T3 Light moderator advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, i'm currently in the market for my first centre fire rifle. I have visited my local firearm dealer who has offered me a Tikka T3 Light in .223. I'm no expert but the rifle appears to be in good condition and appears to have been well looked after. It is currently fitted with a T8 moderator, however stamped on the moderator is '308'.

I would have thought that the moderator should have been stamped {.223}. Is this anything to be concerned about?. I'm quite keen to buy the rifle but this is putting me off. Any advice would be well received.

That is what calibre the mod is bored for, eg calibres up to 308. It will work fine but may not be as good as a .22 moderater in terms of noise reduction.

Many people use such a mod on different calibres in order to save buying a calibre specific moderator for each calibre of rifle they own, which can be a consideration owing to the price of moderators !

It wont have any adverse effects so I wouldnt worry too much ;)

Thanks for the advice guys, interesting view on the T8 moderator, have been told that they are prone to rusting so I may steer clear. Thanks again for the advice.

see if you can knock a bit of money if you take it with out the T8, so you can spend the money you save on a better mod, eg T8 - fully strip-able and i dont think that anyone has had many problems with them - unlike the T8

hope this helps,

all the best
