Gin 500
VERY NICE GIN NICE LINES AND LOOKS LIKE EVERYTHINGS A REAL NICE FIT , WHAT BLADE WAS USED , ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Everything is a very good fit,- not sure what type of blade was used. Can't get intouch with him yet. He had been to Rory Connors in Ireland for knife making classes. Just spoke to him,- it was not an actual class, he just called on him, and he let him watch how it was all done. The type of blade was a Swedish blade, it has BO on it, on the knife he made himself. I have sent you some info via PM

Guest BlueRoo
yeh the sawblades are a great cheap source of steel for knife making , I cut this cleaver from the same blade , it needs the edge touched up but thats after 4-5 years of choppin frozen briskets and anything else that needed choppin ! Nobby 65
Well after being inspired by DUCKWINGS knifes i thought i would have a go not wanting to spend money on the right gear only to feck it up :11: i made do with what i had lying about used a old pitted and rusty plane blade and some bits of hard wood i already had some of the right glue so the only had to buy needle files and danish oil. Not having all the things to make one right i made do with what i had they have enough of a edge to gut rabbits and i won't be gutted if i lost one :11: .Having a go has at least gave me an idea of what to do i might even spend some money on a proper blade wood and horn  . DUCKWING 302
HELL NOBBY ............. I LIKE EM LOOK LIKE REAL USERS AND HAVING SHARPENED MORE THAN MY FAIR SHARE OF PLANE BLADES ..,..... I KNOW THEY CAN GET A REAL EDGE ON !! THE LAURI BLADES ARE AS CHEAP AS CHIPS FROM BRISA , ABOUT 6 EUROS { MY FAVOURITES ARE THE PT BLADES } , ANOTHER 3 EUROS FOR A PIECE OF HORN AND A BOLSTER , WHATS THAT ABOUT A FIVER ? ......... PLUS THE ENJOYMENT OF MAKING SOMETHING YOURSELF , HELL ITS FOR NOWT !!! WELL IVE TALKED MYSELF INTO ORDERING A FEW MORE ALL THE BEST DUCKWING
Nobby 65
Hi fletcher i hacksawed the plane blade in two then used a grinder to get the shape and edge then a oil stone to finish the edge off . I read somewhere to take your time with the grinder as getting too much heat in the blade is a bad thing
Nobby 65
Cheers DUCKWING like you said just had a go now that i have a bit of an idea what to do i will have a go at another one with a proper blade .
DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , JUST A LITTLE UPDATE ON THE KNIVES ......... MADE THIS LITTLE FELLA TODAY ........... PANGA PANGA WITH MOOSE HORN AND ELK COINS WITH A CENTRAL COIN OF EBONY WITH RED VULCANIZED FIBRE SPACERS FITS THE HAND NICE WITH A REAL EDGE TO THE BLADE SO HAS ANYONE BEEN BUSY ? ALL THE BEST DUCKWING
Fletcher 0
Looks good Duckwing, handles a nice shape. I'm waiting on an order from brisa, same blade 63mm, a block of ebony and a silver nickel bolster, trying to carry on the black and silver of the blade through the bolster and handle. Whats the ebony like to work with? I'm trying to decide on a handle shape, the handle on the last knife I made is so comfortable I'm not sure how I can improve on it. Guest ITALLION STALLION
quote .... SO HAS ANYONE BEEN BUSY ? yes me , while you've been making them well done duckwing another grand job Edited January 8, 2007 by ITALLION STALLION
DUCKWING 302
WELL STALLION , YOU KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT AND I WILL KEEP ENJOYING MYSELF FLETCH , THE EBONYS QUITE A SOFTISH WOOD I GOT A BIT OF A SHOCK .... EASY TO WORK WITH , AS FAR AS HANDLE SHAPE ,.....IT MIGHT BE WORTHWHILE MAKING A FEW OUT OF SOFTWOOD OF YOUR DESIGNS BEFORE STARTING ON THE EBONY , I DO FULL SIZED DRAWINGS WITH THE BLADE TRACED AROUND ... THE DRAWINGS CUT AROUND AND THEN GLUED WITH PVA TO THE BLOCK WHEN THE BLADES FITTED , THEN CUT OUT TO ROUGH SHAPE IF YOU ARE FITTING A BOLSTER MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD TIGHT FIT TO THE BLADE .......... FINE FILE WORKS THE ORDER OF THE DAY , TO FIT THE WOOD / HORN TO THE HANDLE I USE A SHEET OF SANDPAPER TAPED DOWN TO A PIECE OF PLATE GLASS , THIS GIVES A TRUE FLAT SURFACE , WHICH WILL GIVE A PERFECT JOINT ......... I WOULD THINK ABOUT BUYING SOME VULCANIZED FIBRE AS WELL MATE , THIS GIVES THE WOOD A SLIGHT MOVEMENT TOLERANCE .. PLUS A LITTLE LEAWAY WITH THE JOINT HOPE THIS HELPS ALL THE BEST DUCKWING
