NICE OLD USER THERE BLANDO ,

WAS THE PLANE BLADE YOU USED FROM A MODERN TYPE STEEL PLANE OR AN OLD WOODEN ONE ?

WHEN SERVING MY TIME , I OFTEN MESSED AROUND WITH OLD WOODEN PLANES , BELIVE ME THEY CAN CERTAINLY BE AS EFFECTIVE AS A STEEL PLANE IN A WORKSHOP .......... HOWEVER GETTING BACK TO MY POINT ,,,,,,,,,,, I FOUND THE BLADES FROM THE WOODEN PLANES TO BE OF A HIGHER QUALITY THAN SAY THE MODERN RECORD / STANLEY ETC , HELD A BETTER EDGE BY FAR , SO WOULD PROBABLY BE BETTER FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A KNIFE

i used one of the old wooden ones but i have now realised the steel as laminated and does not keep a very good edge in the center of the steel if that makes sence so i think for my next one i will have to find an alternative

WELL BLANDO ,

PERSONALLY I LIKE THE LAURI PT BLADES ....... WHICH ARE CARBON . .... TRY BRISA FOR THEM ;)

MACNAS ,

THE HANDLES KEEP EVOLVING A BIT EACH TIME , THEY ARE BASICALLY A SCANDI STYLE BUT SHAPED A BIT MORE ON THE TOP LINE ....... THE SCANDI HANDLES TEND TO BE IN THE SHAPE OF A FISH FROM THE TOP , JUST TOOK A PHOTO TO SHOW YER .. AGAIN WITH THE FLASH SO EXCUSE ME

THE FISH TAIL LEADS TO AN EXTREMELY GOOD GRIP FOR ME AS IT SITS NICE AGAINST THE HEEL OF A HAND

AS FOR WOOD ?

WELL THERES LOADS OF GOOD SUPPLIERS OUT THERE ............ A FRIEND SENDS TO HEXHAM HARDWOODS , ALWAYS RECIEVED TIP TOP GEAR

IVE BEEN LUCKY AS A FEW MATES ARE WOOD TURNERS , THEY HAVE BLOCKS OF EXOTICS WHICH ARE LEFT OVER AND BRING THE ODD ONE IN .......... TODAY I GOT A NICE BLOCK OF WENGE ............... IVE GOT ON STOCK BITS RANGING FROM PURPLE HEART TO BLACK PALM ........ SO PLENTY TO GO AT

ALL THE BEST

You're spoiled for choice then!

You'll laugh at this, I was due to make a buttplate for a gunstock I had in for repair, but I'd run out of walnut and had nothing but some teak, which of course nobody wants to work on if at all possible. So I took the small fella to a playground and while I was there I saw that all the swings and slides had been replaced, and the chippies had left some odds lying about.

I picked up a nice thick 2 ft of some type of hardwood, that I still have no idea about. Made a nice buttplate out of it, works well, no blunt tools and takes a nice finish.

Out of something I picked up off the fecking ground! Just goes to show, best to keep your eyes open eh?
