FLETCHER I JUST COPIED A SHEATH MAKING TUTORIAL ON BRITISH BLADES ........ IT WAS SPOT ON !

BASICALLY TOOL WISE , YOU NEED ........... NEEDLE FILES , RASPS A FEW LONG 3 MM TO 5 MM DRILL BITS AND DIFFERENT GRADES OF SANDPAPER I GO DOWN TO 1200 ......... BECAUSE THATS WHAT ALL I COULD SCROUNGE :laugh:

 

ANYONE INTERESTED IN MAKING KNIVES , I WOULD SPEND A BIT OF TIME READING THE TUTORIALS ON BRITISH BLADES ............. IF IT AINT ON THERE CONCERNING BLADES IT AINT WORTH KNOWING :D

JACKO , BLADE TECS ARENT A BAD SHARPENER , HOWEVER I USE AN ARKANSAS WHITE STONE GETS A REAL NICE EDGE ON A BLADE , A FUTURE PROJECT I AM GOING TO MAKE IS A LEATHER STROP WHEEL WHICH GIVES A SHAVING SHARP EDGE :o

made several knives from bought blades and temperd blades from my freinds kiln and from industrail hacksaw blades ,at the moment i have a slab of walnut burl real buetiful, elm burrel , a couple of ibex horns etc a good few red deer bone pieces between the antler and head ,i made a good knife from flamed birch , i still use it for roe , i sent some ove rthe pond to a few trapper freinds i made them mostly when the foot and mouth was rife , keep me out of trouble a bit , being acarpenter it was not hard to ake handles etc but getting the right mateirals was , i used to cut burl of trees and sell them to bowl makers , i like a good knife forfishing and hunting very usefull tool

IAM SURE THAT CHIPPER TOLD ME OF A LAD THAT MADE CRACKING KNIVES ? FROM UP YOUR WAY , SEEMS A COINCEDENCE ?.......... TODAY IVE JUST BEEN GIVEN A PIECE OF EBONY AND A LUMP OF MYRTLE BURR FROM A WOODTURNING MATE , IVE A LOT OF RED ANTLERS AROUND , PLUS A FEW BITS OF OTHERS , LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE BUSY :D

ye ive made several good ones i was going to give chipper a knife but had to find one suitable for him, never made many lately but ive made some crackers for skinning roe or some made so they float when fishing, out of cork, if you drop it in the drink ,i would put pics up ,ive never realy tried to tell the truth to put a pic up maybe one day

most of the knives i make i use i have a good thumb piece as at night when you wet and gutting a beast i dont want any slip ups , ive used thick bone of the antlers brass plate , ebony for thumb pieces , ive gave afew away to close hunting buddies etc all the ebst with your knife makeing

A friend of mine has just started knife making and sent one to see if i can get a good sheath made for it.

Next one is for me. :rocker:

Its snake wood handle, and buffalo horn. Very nice indeed. I hope you can see it ok, as i'm not so good with this camera.

Everything is a very good fit,- not sure what type of blade was used. Can't get intouch with him yet.

He had been to Rory Connors in Ireland for knife making classes.

Duckwing here's one I made from the sawmill blade it siting on , roughly got it into shape with an angle grinder ,without lettin it get hot then finished off with a file an sandpaper , used some brass rivets and epoxy to attach the sambar antler grip it then blued the blade holds ts edge good an is razor sharp , those old sawmill blades should be easy to get hold off an cheap , I have made other from old file blades they hold theire edge ok but are inclinded to brake
