sidrana7 0
Dear members, I have a SGC and have been actively shooting clays in Kingscliff Sports Lodge for last 6 months. Now that rifle shooting is also in my to-do-list, time to ask some questions. Hope you can find time to answer as fit! 1 Does anyone here practice target shooting with .22lr and .243? More interestingly if in or around Aberdeen? Would appreciate if you can guide further. 2 AFAIK I can do target practice with rifle in proper range only, unless otherwise if I have permission on land which is cleared for that calibre (and offcourse safe in first place). Please correct me if wrong. 3 I think unlike for use of shotgun on club grounds, where you dont require certificate to shoot in the clay ground; I do require FAC to practice on rifle range, require to OWN the equipment and on the FAC. Please correct me if wrong. For now this will be enough for me. cheers Sid. Edited July 16, 2009 by sidrana7 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I can't help you on the local ranges unfortunately, but may be able to shed some light on the others. You can shoot Targets on an approved range if you have Target shooting as a condition on your FAC or you have a condition that allows you to zero your rifle on ranges. If you have land cleared for a calibre, then you are perfectly able to shoot it there be it at a target for zeroing purposes or the quarry which you are allowed to shoot with that rifle. You do require a SGC on club grounds unless they have what is known as a Section 11 exemption where the club is allowed to loan club guns and ammunition to those without a certificate. If you are a member of a rifle club, as long as they have the correct exemptions, similar to those above, then you are allowed to shoot club rifles on club property without the need for an FAC. And therefore, you are not required to own the equipment or have it on your own FAC in order to shoot. In general, rifle clubs will insist on you serving a 6 month probation before they will allow you to apply for your FAC for Target shooting. If you want Targets on your FAC you have to be a member of a Home Office approved club, and one of your referees must be the club secretary. This is the only way to have Target shooting as a condition. Quote Link to post

Yes the club I go to do loan guns and ammunition on their grounds, so even if I didnt have SGC it would have been fine. Interesting to know about the rifle club exemptions and probation. I wouldnt mind serving few months on probation with a club, as long as I have access to equipment/ammunition/range under supervision at fair pricing. As you now know I am complete newbie and just thinking of hunting at some later date. Will take some time to achieve satisfactory references though. Once again thanks a lot. cheers Quote Link to post
