ferreterni 29
Been talking in passing to a bloke in the village shop and the owner said to him that I kept a couple of hens. Well it turns out he runs a local chicken farm. Met him again half hour ago and asked if he would be on for me ratting or after foxes, he said that someone keeps an eye on the foxes and he see's no rats. Ok I said, if you hear of any hunting, rabbits too let me know. Loads of rabbits up the farm he told me. Asked if he would be ok with me ferreting and he said he'd double check with boss, but can't see a problem. So hopefully got some new ground, and have a look for rats too. Not a bad day. ferreterni 29
I'm around maghera area, don't drive so very localised at the moment. Not a great deal around me in walking area. Though the wee russell put the wind up a bunny in a field I can see from my front room today. How's the rabbit poulation down your way? Quote Link to post

ferreterni 29
Chewing at the bit to get looking at it. Know the area and if I'm lucky it's a good spot. But it all leads to more ground so keep plugging away and enjoy myself. Ferrets be glad to get out again soon too. Quote Link to post
ferreterni 29
Had a look round this farm today, 34 acres. Big chicken sheds and fields all round. Nice bit of ground, to much cover for seeing much but I was shown where the hot spots are. It's a nice spot, boundary on a wee fishing river too, was a bad time of day but saw one bunny and found a likely foxy spot too. The surrounding fields have sheep in until the end of august so all the grass is well grazed. Sheep are funny though, i jumped in at one end of a field and they all ran off, then ganged up at the other end and ran back towards me, maybe 60 of em haha This farm isn't hunted or shot so the rabbits are quite confident, shame i'm not lamping this year. Farmer from a hunting lot so very helpful and easy going. Don't think it'll keep the freezer stocked but will get some good days from it, and I was told the neighbouring land owners are approachable too. Will get a run up early morning at the end of the month and see what's floating about when the sheep have gone. Need to get more ferret stock in too, as I'm down to one jill atm. Good luck to everyone who is preparing for the upcoming season, will be my first proper big season and I can't wait to get at it. Quote Link to post
