Hi guys and girls,

Got a 50lb dog here and want to change him from kirklands to barf for the same price or under than what i pay for my kirklands not a tight c**t was just told barf is cheaper. being 50lb 3% of his weight is 1.5lb.

Im not being lazy but any chance someone can put up a typical barf diet meal for me and the costs because how im working it out its alot of more pricey than any kibble

thanks alot.

raw meaty bones from local butcher - free

leftovers from game during season - free

minced tripe 454 g from landywoods - 32p

reduced section chicken portions etc - £1 ish

i reckon your dog would have a pouch of meat from landywoods 454grams a day, add this to little kibble for etc vitamins, you you can buy them seperatly, keeps weight on dog while working wonderfully

mum works in a butchers of course id still have to pay but can get carcesses for nothing, thought these would be raw meaty bones as done seem much meat on em?

Today i gave the dog a chicken carcess and a chicken tigh plus a lamb heart. Will soon see if thats enough but looking at him you can tell his eaten. If thats fine i will give him that daily and add veg and yogurt.

What you guys and girls think?

Thanks for the help someone reakond they feed their dog for 4pound a week. Im not cheap b*****d by any means but just thought i must of been doing it wrong as i workd it out to cost alot more than that.

Will also be going to the local market on weekend as can buy cheap bags worth of meat there. Deffiantly prefer barf when i had him on it before expect then my parents was paying for my dog so price didnt matter at all lol :D

The key to a good Raw diet is variety . . . . .. Tripe and chicken carcasses are the cheap way of doing it, however i feel you need to add extra meats to give a balanced diet.

Ask your mum to get the butchers to keep the left over trim, some fat, beef bones, etc. I would buy lamb breast a couple of times a week, a whole breast should do 2 meals.

That coupled with some reduced items from the supermarket, mince, liver, kidneys, fish, chops, steak, go on a sunday and you'll be able to get loads.

In terms of cost you need to look at the quality of the food your giving, yes if you add in the extra stuff i've mentioned you may pay slightly more than kibble, but the quality of the diet is 100% better.

Canned fish is also good, Sardines in tomato sauce, tuna in oil.

Add veg and yogurt and you've pretty much covered the vitimin intake needed. I wouldn't feed hearts everyday, offal 2/3 times a week is enough. Can anyone locally help you out with rabbits?

LOL SS

Will be weighing and bagging the stuff tomorrow :D.. so ive only got to defrost it the night before. Think ive got it susses and works out 20pounds a month to feed him. Will let you know how i get on with it. Last time i had him on barf really could see the difference thats why im so against staying on kirklands to be honest, dogs stools was better and he was drinking far less.

my advice mate, dont give your dog cod liver oil capsules, the problem with cod liver oil is that theres a small chance of vitamin a toxicity if you dont get the dosage right, once or twice a mth would be ok,but if i were you id get some salmon oil capsules and give them everyday :victory:

Good thread this lads and lasses. some sensible replies for a change. mine are on flesh and are looking alot better on it. Kibble should be a last resort. If youve got accsess to flesh then take advantage of it. Topped up with veg and fishoil ,its the only way to feed your dogs imo atb stabba

spot on dare. Dogs look better ie skin condition etc stools much firmer and shit alot less and your right they drink alot less. Just be cheeky and go to all the butchers in your area and ask for bones cut offs and scraps in the end you shouldnt have to pay at all. I spend nothing to feed mine and i have 5 dogs. Good luck

put down the area you live maybe i can point you in the right direction for good quality but cheap food,i pay 25p a lb for beef plenty of ox heart in there and or horse flesh, chicken 22p minced carcasses, green tripe 25p,any thing i catch is fed and mostly thats good stuff,60p for a can of pilchards in tomatoe sauce but try to waite on the deals for that, now if you go to a local market for fruit and veg you can get very cheap dont cook it blend what you need portion it and freeze for later use,now all of the obove can be got cheaper but soley for convenience i buy it minced,so as it is i can feed cheaper than any mid range meal wich to be fair the majority isnt very good.there is a little science to it but once your used to it youle find it easy, every one on hear will have individual methods and so dont used any ones advice as gospel read up from the internet on barf and make your own mind how to feed .
