hi my name is paul and am new to this site and would like some advice (i'm an aussie), i,ve got two young bitches that i want to start on foxes (as in den work) but have no one to show me how to start them off. the first bitch is an aussie x jack and the other is her daughter, crossed to a show bred jack. how do you get them going to ground? and at what age to start them?as i think the mum is ready she is about 20months old and realy keen. i got told buy an old timer that i met once that you can use large purse nets to net a den, is this true and if so how would i go about it? any info would helpful thanks

I would never take a young dogs word for it that a spot is empty .

I like to see a young dog enter if a place is empty or not and to run through and check every inch of it .

A dog that can mark on the chain comes with experiance ;)

take your terriers where you think the foxes are and allow them to walk loose where the foxes are working. let them use there noses to hunt/find them on top. through cover ect. collect as many dens as you can and allow your dogs to check these also. sooner or later if they have it in them they will go down and work the foxes. there are a few on the sites that make and sell good quality fox nets. its also advisable to use a locating system. never miss a chance to give your pups a rag at a carcass road kill will do for that good luck

Before you go putting your dogs down any holes make sure youve all the gear your going to need as theres 50/50 that the fox will bolt!

Collar Locator

Spade

Medical bag

Water

Pitch bar

Thats my main list anyway, without them your not going to get to your quarry, and maybe a dead dog without these!
