louey 0
hi there people, wow first post.... thanks for taking the time to read. I'm undecided about the sako 85 hunter or the 85 varmint. I believe the hunter has a 570mm length barrel and varmint with a 600mm. At this point I'm unsure of any other differences. I'ts going to be for hunting deer and pigs mainly. And maybe one day I might take it out to the range. If anyone’s got experience or knowledge please let me know. cheers. Quote Link to post

Its no lightweight for stalking. For pigs you've gotta have a light gun to swing easy - I presume its driven boar? The easiest thing to do is to go to a shop and pick up the two of them. Then get the Dealer to mount a scope and see then. Quote Link to post
Mr Adventure 0
This is mine ............85 varmint 308 . I use this for both target and game, I find the heavy barrel best. It is a big lump to carry if its got my North Star mod on........... the only thing that would tempt me away from my 85 varmint woud be a TRG 22 . Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you are out in the field a lot then the Hunter would be my choice every time, MUCH lighter than the varmint and just as accurate, but then, I like lightweight guns as I spend a lot of time in the field! All my certrefires (.223, .243, .308) have light barrels and also get used for target shooting at Bisley on a regular basis, no problem at all unless you go in for rapid fire!!!! Quote Link to post
