davyt63 1,845
Hi every one As I couldn’t make it up to visit andys410 this week in Sunderland, as I was committed to work, I had a bit of a bunny raid here so Charlie and I and [LAST MINUTE .COM, PAULXPALIR] Went over to wantage where we have just recently got some new permission there in the form of a horse paddock. I asked Paul to be at my house at 3:30am so we could get there before sunrise, as this is a good 30minute drive away. He had to leave his place at 12:00am to be to me on time so a fair old drive he had Any way we went and got Charlie and of we went; now we haven’t done a dawn raid on this permission yet so was looking forward to it. As we pulled up at the gates we were welcomed with the view of about 15 bunnies, about 15yds from the gate but we had to get in so as we opened the gate they scarpered, but could see plenty of movement around the paddock. So whilst we had a cuppa tea and a bite to eat {I always make a packed lunch for my shooting guests} THAT’S THE WAY I ROLL!! We just watched them for a while and then decided to have a go. So Charlie went north Paul went west and I went east, and to be fair it was as if they new we were coming as it began to become very quiet. I missed two shots and I could here Charlie and Paul having a plink, and thinking good there bagging. So as the time went on we met back for another cuppa and a quick smoke, then straight back to it. It wasn’t long before I could here them two thwacking again, not much showed over my way as I always give my guests priority shooting {best spot’s} Then the weather had turned a bit and with not much more going on we decided to call it a day on this permission and go have a look at Stanford place, only about 10 minutes away the result of that raid was paulxpalir 3, Charlie 1, davy 0, could not believe it, because the last time we came here we had a good bag, but that’s how it goes. We went to Stanford after getting set up and showing Paul the boundaries & bridle ways, we all went our separate ways, I went over to a small wooded area because, I had seen the weather report for that time of day to get some cover, as I was entering it all the sheep were taking cover from the sun ,and as I got closer the all scarpered out ,and I thought well that has blown my chance of getting anything out from here ,as it would of spooked the bunnies. but as I was heading in some more I caught movement out of the corner of my eye, so I got down on one knee and had a scan around .and there about 30yds away was a bunny but it’s head was obscured by a log so had a bit of work to do and stalk to a better view, but the floor was covered in twigs. a stalking nightmare Here is a pic So I got to a good spot and could see him clear as day, but the only problem was it was sitting right out side its hole, and I was worried about it going down its hole but had to take the shot!! Still. so locked the cross hairs on the kill zone and THWACK up it goes and down it came dead as a stone, then its nerves started to twitch and it kicked its way down the hole I was gutted ,as I wasn’t having a good “n†anyway so so no pic i couldn't find it After a while not much more was going on so decide to make a move on to another area. As I was following the fence line I spotted 3 bunnies out side there warren about 50yds away, so down on my belly and started to crawl towards them . as I was crawling a teenage bunny came out and just sat right on the edge of the nettles, and just stared at me all the time so had to be really slow crawl as not to spook it. I had crawled about 30yds through sheep shit and horse shit, but I knew my reward would be worth it. So by now I was about 20yds from them, so I got up against a support fence post just put my back up against it to calm down and get my breathing under control. This took about 15 minutes as im not getting any younger so up came the AAS410K .22 {Slowly because the teenager was still watching me} cross hairs on the kill zone and THWACK over it went and the buck ran down and I brought the aas410 round to see if the teenager was still standing and THWACK 2 consecutive shots. And thought what a result!! here is a pic By this time we had to pack up because Charlie had hughesjh of here coming around to have a look at his BSA multi shot to buy it.So I was on the radio’s to let them know to meet back at the car in half an hour ,when we all met up we got a group photo of the day session total bag of the day 9 bunnies & 1 squizzer Here is a pic So we met up with Jon {hughesjh} of here and the sale went well for Charlie, and me and Paul went back to mine to have a rest and a bite to eat {a kebab} Before the lamping session I had for Paul, a bit of drive by bunny’ing So we set of to the business park at about nine just to have a look around as the weather was shite it was pissing it down ,but we still went out { that’s the way we roll} So we got there and, had to wait for security to open the gates for us .then we were of, I started at the top of the park as usual and would work our way down. I went for a quick pee and had a look round the corner of the building to see if any were out .and there was so back to the car, Paul had just got his AAS410 classic .177 loaded so I borrowed that And went back to the corner THWACK first in the bag we had only been there five minutes Now the rest was down to Paul, because as a treat I done all the driving and let him do all the shooting, because he told me he was a virgin {at drive by bunny’ing} So of we went picking them of and all credit to my excellent manoeuvring skills in the CRV. that Paul was able to bag so many bunnies’. We had 10 bagged all by 10:30pm and gutted and home for a few pints by 11:30pm and a good old air gun chat and the day’s events. All bunnies’ were taken out by AAS410’S .22 & .177 Lamping group photo Happy hunting Davy Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Never easy is it..always something to overcome, good session though and a good result. I'm sure everyone had a good time I was over Chertsey way myself last night on another new site and had to use the Air Rifle, I'm getting used to it all over again, coincidentally I ended up with 9 bunnies as well. Was just moving on to another site to hopefully ambush the deer when the rains came...Game over!!!! Second time yesterday I got soaked in pursuit of quarry!! PS.... just in case their is any confusion I had the .243 with me for the deer!! Quote Link to post
Malt 379
PS.... just in case their is any confusion I had the .243 with me for the deer!! Good job you clarified that Deker, otherwise there'd be a poll posted asking which is the best pellet for deer, .177 or .22? Quote Link to post

paulxpalir 0
firstly a massive thankyou to davy for inviting me over again, its well worth the three hour drive to davys (peterborough to swindon) this is the second invite i have had and you just cant beat the hospitality. well the new horse paddock permision is good plenty of bunnys, pity about the weather, but nice open fields to practice some longer shot on, but pickins were thin because of the weather. over at stanford i had a wunder about to get a feel for the land, again nice rolling country side with a bit of woodland thrown in for good measure, although i didnt see many bunnies, i did however walk into one field only to have a warning shouted over the radio, "BEWARE OF BORIS" a rarther large bull, and somwhat angry looking too, so just one bunny and then a hasty retreat back to the car to meet with charly and davy. a quick cuppa round charlys and then davy and myself had a nosey round the local gunshops before davys wife fetched us some healthy eating back (chicken kebab and chips!) very nice!!!!!!!! like i said you cant beat the hospitality!! evening time now, and were back in the car heading to another permission, the buisness park, i wasnt quite sure what to expect because the weather had kept the bunny numbers down through the rest of the day so i wasnt very hopfull of a big bag, any way after a bit of convincing that there were some about we arrived at the park and was greeted by a slightly moist security gaurd (it was pissing it down) hew let us in and said that he had seen a few bunnies on his travels. anyway the first bunny fell to davy and then on it was up to me, the first couple i saw and missed (not used to shooting from cars). davy pointed the car at a few more and told me to get on with it, and then they started to fall to the aas410. it was quite fast paced, 9 bunnies in about an hour allthough a few still managed to get away. we left the park piss wet through but i didnt care, it was brilliant, we had 10 rabits and i had a big smile on my face. after a quick trip to the local guptas shop for some well deserved refreshments we dried off and put the world to right over a beer or two. a big thanks to davy for another great weekend i cant wait for the next one!!!
