fishing weed

JMHO, But in weed fish a running lead.......fixed lead set up are just not sensative enough for weed, you will miss all the little knock and pulls which could tell you if you need to re-cast in order to maintain presentation.

And the best bit of advice I will give you is this.......stop reading carp magazines......they are full of shite and all the articles are designed to sell you shite you dont need.

You sound like you have the basics in your head, so now go it alone.

Good Luck ;)

I would dissagree with you saying to use a running lead in the weed, its not a good idea because you wont be able to shed the lead, when fishing in weed you NEED the lead to come off on the take, this is not going to happen with a running rig system ! you need to use a fixed safty bolt clip, but dont pust the lead tale on far at all. once the lead falls off ypou will be amazed the difference it can make to landing a fish, trust me on this, running rigs in weed are a big no no imo.

lots of great advice there mate pre baitindg the target area is the best option but try to do it descretly as some other anglers will jump on your hard work seen it done to many times

just stick to it try using pva sticks and sit it out as the fish are obvisuly used to finding food items in the thick weed

Me and thee will agree to disagree then..........never in 25 + years have I had a problem with a running lead, I get what you are saying but it dont wash....fixed leads are not sensitive at all FACT!, you can move a fixed lead 6 feet side to side or backwards and not get a single indication at the rod end and thats also a fact, I dont rate them at all and certianly not in weed........better off on a running and if your really bothered use a rotten bottom.

Lead clip systems are not reliable anyway, either casting or on a take.

If the weed is so heavy that you cant pull a lead free of it nearly all of the time then you need to use heavier tackle or dont fish in that weed.

Fixed leads may have caught a lot of fish over the years but sensitive they are NOT!

Got to agree with Wilf on this one.

In coarse fishing I normally use a running feeder. If, for some reason it knots up and fixes the feeder the loss of sensitivity on the tip is remarkable. All the little knocks and nudges that tell tou how a bite is developing disappear.

I also agree with the notion that some areas are possibly unfishable. Better fish somewhere else than risk a fish being tethered to a lead.
