welshboy454 3
I tend to use 5s for everything, work brilliantly on everything from ducks to woodcock to pigeon. that said recently i have been using gamebore clear pigeon no 6 (very good cartridge, very recommended) i wouldnt use 7, just tooo light for my liking, stick to 5 and 6 you wont go wreong Hmmm 5's for ducks !!!!!!!!!!!! lead no can't be - must be bismuth or steel. Steel go down 2 sizes is the guidance - bismuth can't afford them ! Quote Link to post

Steel is crap in my opinion, better off spending more and reaping the rewards. also i have english guns so i wouldnt dare shove steel up the barrel. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Never go above 28gr No.7 for Pheasant, Woodcock, Pigeon, Partridge, Snipe, Crows and Magpies. I use Eley VIP FITASC shells, very hard lead, very fast cartridge and exceptionally deadly. I have used all sorts of shot sizes on Pigeons, right down to 8 1/2. They were relatively close at around 25 yards in that case, fired through 1/2 choke. It depends on your confidence to kill and your choice of cartridge. Not all 28gr No.7's are up to the job. Cartridges which are slow, cheap and filled with poor quality lead with a poor pattern, I just wouldn't use. Quote Link to post
cúagusgiorraí 57
I certainly wouldn't use no7's on Pheasants as you have a good chance of just wounding the birds. I tend to use 6's for pheasants early season and 5's later on in the season or if i'm shooting high birds. 7's are ok for partridge and woodcock/snipe. I've been using 61/2's recently on pigeons with very good results. Rabbits i use 5's or 6's Exactly what I use! Quote Link to post
